December 3, 200520 yr "Combi" is used throughout the fast food industry as a gimmicky marketing phrase for 'combination value' meals, usually emcompassing a drink, fries & a burger. "Combi" is also an affectionate pet name farmers give their harvesting combines.

Generally the term refers to something that can be used for a number of uses. In the airline industry, it refers to a mixed freight/passenger aircraft.
December 3, 200520 yr When I hear the name I think of the touque and glove maker. Touque: "too" like from "tool" then a "ck" from "kick". It's a Canadian word, and I'm still not sure what you Americans call them - the wool hats that go over your ears for the winter, especially skiing.

December 4, 200520 yr Author One definition of 'Kombi' I found: taxi-van Combi: small minibus that runs urban bus routes also refers to aircraft carrying part passengers and cargo VW bus indeed used this name, 'VW Kombi'
