I don't think production has started yet, but wasn't it supposed to start arriving in 1Q '06? If so, then that's probably why you can order it.

    GM dealers are able to place initial orders from Dec 5, 2005.

    Initial production begins on January 23, 2006.

    So, if you order today you can probably get your G6 convertible by April 1.
