I'm over Chevyed!

My source may be wrong, because this, the '62 Chevy II brochure online

http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_itemId=23315

doesn't show one... Either wrong, or a late-year intro. I tend to believe the book was wrong here. Sorry for what looks like a mislead..

Would make an interesting phantom, though.

Likewise for an El Camino version.

Rob

Some possible phantoms that would look interesting would be a '59-60 2dr ht with a flattop roof (i.e. like a 4dr ht). Or a '61 2dr ht with the 2dr sedan flattop roof. Or a '59-60 2dr ht wagon (Mercury had one, GM didn't).

It might not be within the specific year range you want, but I had an idea: take a '70s Cutlass wagon or Vista Cruiser and make it into a shooting brake ...

I like that idea too.

Since '59 Buicks have a special status around here, what about a '59 Buick Sedan Delivery as a phantom?

Lots of variables to that, I'd have to choose carefully. The more pieces I can source from a given platform, the easier it will be to do.

I actually like what your thinking-

Much more simple than the holden thing, Unique, non Chevy.

I almost think building a 55 Pontiac/55 Chevy sedan delivery.

IIRC 53 was the last year for a Pontiac sedan delivery, but I could be wrong. 55 is my fav. 50's year for BOTH Pontiac and Chevy (sorry balthazar, different strokes for different folks.)

I remember almost buying a 55 Chevy sedan delivery when I bought my 55 Chev 2 door post. Satty would have liked the delivery as it was owned by an adult bookstore owner and producer of porn at one point in its life.

But a phantom 55 Pontiac sedan delivery would be fairly simple, I think. Challenging enough to make it a project, but simple enough you would get it done in this lifetime.

Just remember, project camino could become a tow vehicle to someone in Ohio who might want to tow a race car. A freind of mine just bought a fiat SCCA prod. car, and my friend is looking at that maroon 52,000 mile 97 Chev 4x4 at Buckeye Honda I posted about a few weeks ago.

Methinks at some point project Camino would be a good vehicle for towing around a Fiat or a spec Miata or a lotus (if I win the lotery on the lotus) or something.

But think 55 Pontiac sedan delivery. Think Project Camino=tow vehicle perhaps.

And that Falcoln is kick ass. I have always ahd a weak spot for the 64 and 65 falcolns.

I'm fine with most of the car ending up custom, but I'd like the body itself to look factory enough to make people scratch their heads and ask, " did they build those?"

What about a 61 or 62 Buick as a 60's style custom with metalflake paint and narrow whitewalls and white tuck and roll interior?

Just a thought, I've seen them done that way and love them. You mmay say not unique enough, but add some nice custom touches.

Chris

Another idea: a Chevelle or LeMans panel delivery.

In the phantom thread I brought up the idea of a Buick Skylark sedan delivery. Like where your going here, Y-J.

64-65 Chevelle two door wagon into a delivery?

Chris

B-59 SD would- of course, be interesting, but I've stated it before, I REALLY want to see an 'Elky' B-59... tho I would settle for a much longer flower car, too

In general I'm not nuts on the SD thing.

>>"The idea of some type of phantom based on a bubbletop is working for me. "<<

Now here's something interesting- you could combine a phantom Elky with a bubbletop roof!

0810sr_17_z%201961_chevy_impala_hard_top

.... Hm-mmm- getting a single sidelight with a tapered B-pillar would be really tough/impossible.

Interesting factoid--there was a production '55 (and maybe a '56) Pontiac sedan delivery....in Canada. I've seen pics of one before in Collectible Automobile. Interesting car.

The trouble is that many of the ideas I like best involve cannibalizing a rare vehicle.

I might have to get more creative to avoid that.

That's a beautiful Impala...love the color and Pro Touring build style.

Rob

Start with a rustbucket delivery and a plain jane car.

Chris

And Rob, if you come up with a pic, I would like to see it...55-56 Pontiac delivery.

Rob, your right, I love that Impala.

I know that car!

It is flat out gorgeous in person!

I'd bet that a '59 Camino roof would get the job done, but it would lose the bubbletop look.

Here are some pics of a '56...only 1300 built apparently. Other than the front end, the metal all looks to be Chevy.

I think that for a phantom Camino or SD, I'd have to start with a bubbletop coupe, and the same year wagon.

About what I was thinking. Thanks for the pic!

Not sure why you would need a buble top, unless you wanted a shortened buble top for an E/C.

I'll check my Ohio Junkyards again, seems like I remember seeing a B/O/P bubletop of some flavor here, and I know I've seen several old wagons.

Chris

How 'bout a truck instead? 1950chev_extra.jpg

One of our local SCCA members, Brian, who runs Aujtobody Specialists in Grandview built a nearly identical truck to this. It is blue with a big block IIRC.

Chris

You still have that Starlet, Fog?!!

As for trucks, by the time I finish Mothertruck, the Blazer, and Project Camino, I will have had my fill, I think.

Imagine a Camino with that sloping rear pillar and backlight, or an SD with the same rear roofline...

Absolutely!

It's a part of the family.

It's been sitting for a year or so now. (Like the Camaros... GRRR - At least they fire up and move a bit though) Since I moved to Charlotte, I don't have much time to do anything with it. We had an electrical gremlin that we chased for a long time and finally gave up on when $$$ started getting tighter. Not to mention, me wiring something is like asking a fat kid to make a good salad.

Something needs to be done with it though. (Now I've worked myself into a stress about the Camaros too, LOL)

Speaking of Caminos... I found a pretty good '59 for sale at a show the other day.

Bubletop+wagon=Camino

I like it, but I think it would be difficult to pull off and make it look right.

But I like it.

Chris

FOG-how much did they want for the Camino?

Chris

When I first read this post, I read it as "..a Camaro with that sloping rear pillar and backlight". Got to thinking...I wonder how a '67-69 Camaro or '68-72 Nova 2dr would look with a '65-69 Corvair 2dr roof...it was similar to the bubbletop. Insane?

When/if I get into something like this, I hope for some serious photoshop help from this place!

Interesting!

Actually, what would a 67-68 Camaro convertible look like with a Corvair convertible windshiled and done up as a speedster?

Think GM had a show car that was similar.

Thanks to all for a cool initial brainstorming session!

Now I have to get some rest so I can "think Healey" tomorrow.

That could be cool.

One phantom idea I've had for years that I want to build in 1:25th would be an Olds F82....i.e. what if Oldsmobile had a '67-69 F-body? How would a Camaro/Firebird look restyled with Olds styling cues--maybe the '67-68 funky headlight treatment, or '69 split grille and vertical taillights?

Rob

On a similar note, I've always wondered what an Olds Kappa would have looked like...

I guess a Shelby Series 1 with the Aurora powerplant will be as close as we'll ever get to that...

Not really- there's a Steve Stanford illustration in the brand new Hot Rod- 1st gen Camaro with a 2nd gen Corvair roofline, '57 Chevy grille bar, '62 Impala bumper stainless... and a few other twisted tricks. Check it out- it works!

I think it was around 10K or above. I looked at so many cars that day... I can probably dig up a picture though.

This is much more like what I suggested and what I'm thinking Camino should do.

It would definitely be something different and very neat to see. It might even fool a few people.

I had another idea just now: make a hardtop coupe out of a Colonnade coupe.

Not that this is a suggestion, but OMG- th-there's.... STYLE in a late '70s car ?!?

Clean machine!

I really want to see a visual representation of this idea. :scratchchin:

A 2-door wagon with bubbletop-style roof sounds spectacular.
