Mitsubishi Motors Reports July Sales Increase

August 3, 2009 --Cypress, Calif. --

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) today announced July 2009 sales of 4,487, an increase of 11.1 percent over June sales, and year-to-date sales of 31,314. MMNA posted its third consecutive month of increased sales.

July's volume leader was the fuel-efficient Lancer, with 1,712 sold, up 24.4 percent over last month. Sales of the Outlander CUV gained 39 percent over last month with 984 sold.

Showroom traffic rose sharply in July as consumers began their comparison shopping with the start of the U.S. government's cash-for-clunkers rebate program. As expected, sales quickened after the program started. Mitsubishi has 15 models that qualify under the program's fuel efficiency guidelines.

"We're cautiously optimistic that consumer confidence is returning, and that will precipitate incremental long-term growth," said John Koenig, executive vice president of operations for MMNA.

Adding to the optimism is next month's arrival of the all-new five-door 2010 Lancer Sportback Ralliart and GTS. The Lancer Sportback gives buyers another intelligent choice for a crisp handling, economical and versatile Mitsubishi.

Mitsu just needs to die IMHO.
