December 11, 200520 yr What do these names have in common, Nova, Panther, Wildcat, Chapparal, G-Mini, GeMini and Gemini? [post="56764"][/post] they were all on the drawing board for the camaro's name plate... the reason they had the last 3 were because GM thought they might want the vehicle to have GM in the name... unfortunatly if the vehicle was a flop they didnt want it to say GM... so they knocked those ideas... In the end the car was called Camaro, a french phrase that no one knew what it ment...

According to Chevrolet, the word Camaro came from an "obscure 1935 French-to-English dictionary," and that it's meaning is "comrade, pal, or chum."
