August 14, 200916 yr For as long as I can recall, I've always dreamed of GM granting some of their fans one "wish"... and not just a free vehicle, but something along the lines of getting the chance, a'la Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory style, to see or do something that no one else in the public gets to do. So, let's play fantasy world (remain civil, please!) and post what your one wish would be from GM. This could be a fun exercise! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mine would be to have the opportunity to drive two GMC vehicles... the '56 GMC Suburban Carrier (Cameo) that's in the Heritage Collection AND the 2000 GMC Terradyne concept truck back-to-back. Nothing crazy, but a nice, long drive around the Milford Proving Ground and my camera to capture the day on film (well, at least digitally). A bonus would be a walk-through of the GMC Styling Center to see what is currently under development. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Next?
August 14, 200916 yr Fantasy: A chance to buy Olds and Pontiac and the trademarks associated with them for next to nothing. Then use them to build a new car company. Reality: A chance to work at GM Design for a month.
August 14, 200916 yr A one week 'package' tour including a guided tour through the Heritage Collection, a tour of an engineering center, a tour of a design center, drinks w/ Bob Lutz, a tour of the Milford Proving Ground and a drive around a track in a ZR-1, a tour of the Camaro plant (Oshawa) and the Corvette plant (Boweling Green). Not too much.. R

August 14, 200916 yr I would be happy just spending a day at the proving ground test driving all types of GM cars, old and new with Lutz riding shotgun. Also, if they had any Olds memorabilia gathering dust in a storage room, I'd gladly take it off their hands for free.
August 14, 200916 yr Another thing... I'd like to hang out in the pits of one of the C6-R teams for the weekend at LeMans. Maybe catch a ride in one during the race for an hour or so also.. R
August 14, 200916 yr To have GM actively listen and participate in a forum such as this one so we can tell them when their plans are going to be a boatload of FAIL.
August 14, 200916 yr Bring Oldsmobile and Pontiac back as the brands that would fill the gaps in the GM lineup. Oldsmobile would be large and midsized speciality high tech/engineered cars and Pontiac would be performance cars. The Oldsmobiles would be sold through Cadillac and Chevrolet dealers. The Pontiacs in the Buick and GMC showrooms. Oldsmobile would have: Ninety Eight and Toronado and Cutlass. All the Oldsmobiles would offer bench and bucket seats. They would have futuristic "American" styling with innovative interiors and features. They would be the GM brand with cars with bench seats. Pontiac would have: Bonneville and Grand Prix and Firebird. All the Pontiacs would be rear drive. Think 1960's and 1970's and early 1980's Pontiac with new technology and styling that screams performance. These brands would use the GM parts already being used on GM cars now. To make them cost effective, parts would be shared with Holden for Pontiac and Oldsmobile would share parts with other GM cars globally. It would be the things you cannot see. Holden and Pontiac and Oldsmobile would work closely together, but produce different types of cars cosmetically inside and out. These products would not overlap because Buick would not have anything larger than LaCrosse and Buick is aimed at entry level luxury and imports. Chevrolet is aimed at the heart of the buying market. They would not compete with Pontiac because where Chevrolet would top out in performance cars is where Pontiac would start. These two brands would not get any other vehicles. If the market takes off for wagons, Pontiac and Oldsmobile would share a wagon with Holden that would look different for each brand. Being GM said they can be flexible with front wheel drive, Oldsmobiles version would be front wheel drive and called Custom Cruiser and Pontiac's would be called Safari. Other dream: To see Holden sold in the United States either as Holden or as Oldsmobile with some modifications and changes. Other dream: Have a long conversation with Fritz Henderson and Bob Lutz and Ed Welburn about GM. Edited August 14, 200916 yr by NINETY EIGHT REGENCY
