I know this is a stretch but do you think Cad designers even realized the similarities between the steering wheel from the new STS vs. a '67 Eldo?

Dunno, but I hate these new triangle-middle steering wheels. I like to be able to put my hand at the bottom of the wheel when cruising on the interstate.

I prefer four spoke wheels myself.

yeah, do something different with the wheel but leave the wood.

I prefer TWO spoke wheels... so there!!!

Three spokes are great, leave it as is. :)

Two spoke wheels are the ugliest. So unbalanced and cheap-looking.

A steering wheel is a tool not a design statement. Function should always take precedence over appearence when its the primary tool used to control a two ton death missle. :) No, its a matter of comfort, really, like PurdueGuy said. It sounds like he likes the 6:00 position, myself I like 7:00, 9:30, 12:00, and 2:30 positions so the four spokers really make me fidgety. sixty8's two spoker might be out for me because 7:00 is occupied. I simply love the late 80's Buick and Oldsmobile 2 spoke wheels. Spokes are at 8:00 & 4:00 so there is no interference for me whatsoever. My 91 Regal had the same layout and also had radio controls on wheel, including on/off. Delta Force - Im not sure if there is a connection but I see the similarity. I think those old wheels were flat across the top however and really were not very sharp, to me anyhow. I might be comfortable with this new Cadillac wheel, but I dont think my checking account would be :lol: That Datsun wheel is different ! Actually not a bad layout for a grey interior. Now see, I just came up with a new sales gimmic. There should be three steering wheel options to suit the driver. GM can be the first to market with that. Then and only then will they be class leading ! :CG_all:

I have to disagree with you on one point- Razor. I love to see an expressive, funky wheel in a car. Unfortunately, I have to go back 35 years or more to see one! One thing I hate about modern wheels is it seems every generation gets thicker and thicker and thicker. And the tumescent buldges at 10:00 & 2:00 are often completely out of hand. Who the hell is driving- Bigfoot (Hand)?? Along with 'mitten handle' exterior door pulls and oversized, centrally-planted hazard switches, cars increasingly seem to be designed for toddlers-to-pre-teens rather than adults. Perhaps it's a subconscious effort to nail that youth demographic, IDK. ;)

Seriously I believe a wheel needs to be styled and I have seen some nice ones, but there is more to think about. I believe my wheel option is well worth looking into, how much investment could there be ? Most likely more would be spent by some commitee to determine if it would be worth doing than the tooling & design would cost. No one has ever offered that and to some people it could make a difference.

small print: my 86 LeSabre Limited has a nicely inlaid, medium dia., thin, red wheel, with spokes at 8:00 & 4:00 - perfect (for me).
