Renault has just announced a new compact mid-size sedan called the Fluence for its Turkish, Russian, and Romanian markets. The Fluence is sized to slot in between the usual C- and D-segment offerings, making it a bit larger than the Megane and smaller than the Laguna. The front-wheel drive four door is apparently based on the platform of the Renault Samsung SM3 which is built and sold in South Korea.

..........

All of this news could all be relevant for American consumers if Roger Penske manages to close a deal with Renault to have Samsung supply cars for Saturn. If that comes to pass, we could conceivably see a variant of this car show up at Saturn dealers in the States in the next few years. Check out the press release after the jump and the high-res gallery below.

someone should do a saturn front clip on this car. the door panels and side windows look a little like the second gen S series. i would be so LOL if they tried to morph this car into looking like that.

I hope they at least change the name. The Saturn Flatulence? Wait, maybe it's brilliant if it makes its own gas.

Yay, another article that has no specific reason for thinking Saturn could get the car, aside from "Penske might make a deal with this automaker." In the silence of real Penske/Saturn news, this is all the media can come up with.

I'm trying to figure out where the Renault tie in comes from? Has Penske announced any negotiations with Renault?

Personally, I'd rather see him tie the knot with Citroen. They are the closest you could get to a French Oldsmobile.

Don't think so, but both Renault and PSA would have a chance of entering the US market by partnering with Saturn. Citroën might be a little too quirky for the US market...

Here's a thought: how about Mr. Penske buys the rights to use the old Epslion, Theta, and Delta platforms, updates them and makes a whole new slew of unique, new, all-American Saturns to replace the Aura, Vue, and Astra?

Best to sell the technology to Penske than Russia, am I right GM?

Disagreed. Penske, with all his money, does not have the wherewithal to start with such basic building blocks. He needs something fully engineered. The Korean Renaults fit in that scenario, if they meet US crash and emissions standards.

Penske is a marketer, not a car manufacturer.

I'd rather have one with a normal Megane front end and a Saturn badge.

apparently this is larger than the megane and the clone of the samsung whatever that has been referenced in other articles. its the samsung ssm3 or whatever with a renault beak.

  • 4 months later...

That outdoes the 1.8L Astra in being lame.

SATURN RIP
