January 3, 200620 yr Dodge is now claiming that this 4100lb beast does 0-60 in 4.5s. Unless they have some insane gearing, there's no way it's going to be faster than the much lighter GTO.
January 3, 200620 yr I read somewhere why the Challenger was so big. Mainly, it all adds up the platform and how the firewall-area requires a large cowl (sp?). Instead of trying to make it small and weird, Dodge just created it so it would be proportionate. I hope I have this explanation right.
January 3, 200620 yr I didn't know it was because of the firewall, but it is because it would look disproportionate if they made it shorter. I think they could have shortened the wheelbase some more and gotten overall length down that way. It still would be way overweight regardless.
January 4, 200620 yr Well, at least it will have a useable back seat........which is perfectly fine with me. :AH-HA_wink:
January 4, 200620 yr Judging from this pic, it doesn't appear that the back seat is too great: The Challenger is so long because the hood is streched a lot compared the the Magnum/Charger/300 and the rear end is rather lengthy as well.

[post="67152"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post] I think it was Autoblog that said something about the front area where the firewall is. Perhaps not neccesarily the firewall itself but that general area is originally designed for a large car with a large engine and can't be changed easily. The body and proportions have to be built around it.
January 6, 200620 yr Awesome article on how the Challenger concept came to be: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Featu...cleId=108756#38 Even has some drawings of concepts that didn't make it.......and a video! B)

January 6, 200620 yr for the challenger or the Bettys? Glad you enjoyed either way. [post="68706"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post] The Challenger (and other cars) for work.......and the Betty's for home!! (well that sounds a little gross, but you get the idea)
January 6, 200620 yr I'm so glad they went with the current design rather than this one from the link BrewSwillis posted. The front is end is way too trucky and Charger-like. Great find!

January 20, 200620 yr I think it looks ok...am I the only one who thinks this thing looks way too retro? I mean, if you take the three coupes, Challenger, Mustang and Camaro, they go in that order in terms of originality and design flair. The Challenger looks...carbon copied. It just seems so bleh to me. Something about it just doesnt have that flair, that spark, that fire. It gave me more of an impression that an IS350 did rather than what the Camaro did. Just kind of an "Oh...yeah that was expected" over a "Hooooooly crap look at THAT."

I go to school and hear about how great the Challenger looks. Well, I ask them if they like the original, and they say they love it. Well, that's because the new Challenger is just the old one with new headlights! lol

January 26, 200620 yr Wow, those sketches make me shut right up about my "slightly too retro" comments. This thing looks akward, disproportioned and lame compared to the actual concept.
