Why aren't there any LED headlights being made yet? We have them in interiors, taillights, and turn signals; not as headlights, but they're in concepts. I don't get it.
I still think LED taillights look unbearably cheap (unless 'veiled' like the '00 deVille). Look where we saw them before: traffic lights, garbage trucks, school buses and hand-held electronic games. Real high class company there.

I think they look good. It's not only that though. LEDs don't burn out (or so I've heard) and don't get hot whatsoever. Plus, they take hardly any power to light (90% more efficient than incandescent light). And they're brighter. EDIT: They do burn out, but they last MUCH longer than incandescents. I'm speaking at least 90,000 hours longer.

CD/BP- ever seen these babies lit at night?

They illuminate behind you in the pitch black enough to see from the driver's seat... experienced many times first-hand.

Hm. Never noticed those. But damn are those some gaudy, cluttered lights
The Q45's aren't LEDs. They're seperate HID xenon units. LED headlights aren't legal for our roads yet.

Oh...um...heh. I forgot?

If I'm not mistaken, the new DTS has white LED reverse lights. I was in back of one at night and they were blinding.

I think more cars should use them because not only do they last longer but they allow designers to create more attractive rear light patterns and give a car a little bit more individuality.

You might be right about that, I'd just never seen it until I was sitting behind this particular prototype and thought "holy crap those are the whitest, brightest back up lights I've ever seen!"
Part of the trouble with using LEDs in automotive use is that they're so directional. You can buy aftermarket LED bulbs that fit in the sockets for regular lights (brake lights, turn signals, etc - no headlights that I know of), but they don't illuminate the light housing properly. A tail light that normally would light up fully instead has a red dot in it. It does give designers more freedom, but it also gives more restriction and forces creative design to overcome directionality.
BMW 5-er has LED backups. I'm like 99% sure of that. It also has LED side markers.
