I don't know if I like the idea of a split rear window. This isn't a school bus we are talking about here.

Not the divert the thread, but I've seen buses like that in parts of So Cal in recent years..I wonder--are they a late model bus w/ retro styling or are they as old as they look--the styling looks like it's from the '40s or 50s.

Now you got me wondering... I haven't seen any like it in real life, so I assumed the picture was a vintage bus... especially since it only has red flashing lights. In Jersey, all our buses have the amber flashing lights first... the red flashing lights come on when the bus stops... I thought that was the same all over the country, so seeing the lack of amber flashing lights, I really thought it was vintage.

Now that you bring up the question, I see it has some anachronisms. The white roof, the taillight lenses, the safety warnings and notations.

I wish I could make out the badge on the rear to look up the company's website.

I recall round headlights and maybe a split windshield also. I've seen this style or similar in the LA area when I've been out there on vacations over the last decade..I noticed them because they seemed to be in use and looked so old timey.

GE bought them and closed them down cause they built the best buses in America and their customers didn't need to buy new buses.

Talk about the "twinkie buses" here.

Speaking of buses and tying it back to GM, Matchbox now has a diecast 'short bus' w/ a current style GMC Savana cab.

Crowns were mostly sold on the west coast. A lot of them are found in mexico now. They used alumnium and stainless steel on the bueses, which helped them from rusting through. Also, they were very innovative with drain channels that went through the body of the bus to prevent water from having to drip out through holes in the bottom of the body.

Those buses and the lack of storm drains were two of the anomalies I noticed when I was in LA.

I rode this bus in high school. This was my high school's "athletic team" bus. It had a license plate frame from my high school's booster club on it at one time.
