December 30, 200520 yr I haven't been driving the thing for over 2 years anyway, but it's still upsetting. Apparently the alternator did something wrong while the car was in my sister's possession and it started a fire. This is what the engine compartment looks like now... The worst part? I'll probably never own or even get to drive an Oldsmobile again. :( 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva SL Sedan... 1996 - 2005
December 30, 200520 yr you're not the only one who's lost a set of wheels this holiday season.... sad to see an olds go.....
December 30, 200520 yr See if you can pick up a good early Intrigue for a good price....with a 3800, though. The twin cam 3.5 was too new at that point. I, too, hate to see an Olds bite the dust. Good luck to you in taking the next step. I take it you will see some insurance proceeds.
December 30, 200520 yr Ouch! That's not a pretty picture! I feel your loss. :o That's definately not a pretty picture Last week my car was overheating and leaking coolant, turns out i had three gaskets that needed to be replaced (intake, valve cover, timing cover). Cost me almost $800 to get it fixed and now it runs like a champ. How many miles did it have on it? My 97 is a bit passed 125k From one fellow Achieva driver to another, sorry for your loss.
December 30, 200520 yr Sorry to hear that buddy... on the plus side does Decka need a parts car? It's always sad to see a car go. I even get a bit sad whenever I sell something out of my fleet. After 9 years in my family (having been purchased brand new) I sold my '93 Achieva the same day I bought my '68 Panther. For obvious reasons I never looked back at the time and pretty much had a good-riddance attitude about the Achieva. After all it had a POS 115hp Quad four and my newly aquired Camaro had almost 400. I also vowed to never drive a FWD in my late teens and the temporary Achieva was wearing on my nerves. But now years later I do feel bad about just casting it aside. Esp. since the poor car was abused, crashed & junked by the girl I sold it to in less than a year. :( Edited December 30, 200520 yr by Sixty8panther
December 30, 200520 yr Sorry about the Achieva. I don't see many of these on the road anymore. Occasionally I see a white four-door S model that looks similar to the one that I drive at work.
December 30, 200520 yr ... on the plus side does Decka need a parts car? Hmm... what color is the car and what condition is the hood in? I've been thinking about returning my hood stock, at least for the winter so the fiberglass doesn't crack.
December 30, 200520 yr Sorry to hear about it, Quad-A. I guess this will be the last time I post this. A special variation on my favorite car pun.

I haven't seen the damage first-hand, but I'm guessing the hood would need a repaint. I think the car made it a little past 160k. Not bad for a second generation N-Body, eh? Don't worry about me. I got the Cobalt, remember? :) It's really my sister who's out of a car. Which reminds me... So many cars have changed hands in my family in the past year. It might be time for an update. - My wife and I just got the 2006 Cobalt (not long after we got married) - My dad has his 2002 Grand Prix and 1997 Astro. I think he wants to replace the Grand Prix (doesn't like it) and maybe sell the Astro. - My dad also still has a 1972 Chevy Van in his garage... Supposedly it will be junked or donated. Nothing is horribly wrong with it (not much to go wrong) other than that no one wants to drive it. - My sister had the 1997 Achieva until everything melted. Apparently my parents are going to fund the replacement. - My 1985 Seville is sitting at a local mechanic's shop for some repairs, as my father-in-law is going to pick it up - My wife's 1997 Venture has already been gifted to her mother. Decka, take good care of your Olds. I didn't help this one much, but my sister and her friends practically destroyed the damn thing up to the point it caught fire.
