January 1, 200620 yr I'm curious as to what benefit(s) the G80 Limited Slip Rear Differential would provide me on my Saturn SKY. The SKY will be a 3rd vehicle in my household and will only be used on nice sunny days (no rain unless I get caught in an unexpected storm and definitely NO snow). Should I include it when I option my image when at the dealership, or should I save myself some $$$? (anyone know the cost, presumably on the Solstice?) EDIT: $195 (Solstice), per GMBuyPower.com (is it worth the $195)??? Edited January 1, 200620 yr by GMTruckGuy74
January 1, 200620 yr Doesn't it mainly come into use when going around corners at high speed? I thought it just kept the inside rear wheel from spinning all the power away.
January 1, 200620 yr Yes, the LSD is for going around corners, and any performance car should have it. And at only $195, it's cheap.
January 1, 200620 yr LSD also was instrumental in limited-one-wheel traction, tho perhaps traction control addresses that now. Interesting: G80 has been the GM code for LSD since at least 1965.
January 2, 200620 yr Considering it is usually $600+ just to buy an aftermarket LSD, I would say thats cheap.
January 3, 200620 yr Plus if you want to light 'em up off the line you'll leve two black streaks and not a single one which looks gay :P Edited January 3, 200620 yr by avro206
January 3, 200620 yr Bullshit, avro. I got Eaton Locker in the Colorado. Only thing that's gay is, with the new tires, it won't spin a wheel on dry pavement anymore. <_<

Every car I have with posi left two blackstripes. Edited January 3, 200620 yr by avro206

Did any 97 grand ams SEs come with LSD from the factory?

I am not an expert by any means but I have heard that a non LSD will sometimes spin both tires in a straight line. But thats still not the same as LSD. Probably not when cornering though.
January 3, 200620 yr FWIW, G85 is the GM code for the FWD LSD in the Cobalt SS supercharged. Not sure if they offer it in the Ion RL or not.
