January 2, 200620 yr The Malibu SS will still have the new 3 spoke design steering wheel, but any other malibu models get the steering wheel shown below:
January 2, 200620 yr The steering wheel like the one in the Solstice? At some positions it feels a little uncomfortable. Like, I sometimes prefer driving with my hand at the bottom of the wheel when cruising and can't due to the spoke.
January 2, 200620 yr Just kinda funny to me. And more proof its the stuff around the steering wheel that needs changing...
January 2, 200620 yr I really like the look of the 3-spoke - very modern, but I agree with Josh. I like cruising on the highway with my hand at the 6 o'clock position, and you can't do that. I drove a Purdue Grand Prix with a 3-spoke, and just couldn't relax my hands on the interstate. Great look, poor ergonomics. The 4-spoke at the top of the 3 pix is better looking than the other 4-spoke, IMO, but it does have a '90's look to it, where the other 4-spoke looks more modern. Still, put some nice buttons on the top one and it'd be my top choice.

The materials on some of the dash board look different also but it still needs to get some more color or higher quality plastic around the radio, vents, mainly the whole center part of the dash. Overall thought the Malibu's interior is improving.
January 5, 200620 yr That steering wheel looks like it was ripped out of a '99 Dodge Dakota in the Malibu. Strange that it looks more modern in the Impala. Edited January 5, 200620 yr by anorexorcist
January 5, 200620 yr New steering wheel! Oh yeah, as if that's what the Malibu really needs. In my opinion, the only thing that it needs for the interior are new climate control vents that look a little more expensive and special. The rest seems ok. And yes, I drive one when they first came out. It was nice-base model with the 2.2L ECOTEC. The car seemed very solid and quiet. I just didn't care for the vents, more so than the steering wheel (or front end styling, which is still wrong even with its latest update, looks too tall). Edited January 5, 200620 yr by S.Myers
January 5, 200620 yr Well if nothing else it will help cut some costs having one less steering wheel to produce. Greater economies of scale and all that.
January 5, 200620 yr You know the old steering wheel may be ugly but it has comfortable driving positions and does look a little better in the Nox.
January 5, 200620 yr Here's an idea: how about a steering wheel that actually looks like a 2007 one-and not one GM should've put in circa 1997. Do what Grand Prix does-integrate the stereo controls INTO the steering wheel, not around-its just so dated looking!
January 5, 200620 yr Mule, what that picture can't show you is that there are layers of buttons there. You can pull a button for certain functions. I've used a similar setup in the new DTS and it's actually quite intuitive and useful. Yes there are lots of buttons, but they are easy to operate.
