January 3, 200620 yr This thing looks pretty capable for a soft-roader: http://www.americancarfans.com/spyphotos.c...oid/6060103.001
January 3, 200620 yr It better be capable. Jeep has a reputation to protect. Edited January 3, 200620 yr by ZL-1
January 3, 200620 yr Did he mean to go into the ditch like that. It doesn't seem like something you would try to do...but he made it out.
January 4, 200620 yr Some pics on the Jeep website that they labeled a concept in Frankfurt : http://www.jeep.com/jeep_life/news/jeep/patriot_compass.html From what I've read, the Compass is 95% correct compared to production. Edited January 4, 200620 yr by bdubsee

[post="67197"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post] Don't laugh, but does anyone else see a "little" bit of SRX in the jeep.com picture
January 4, 200620 yr Are they just going to build ONE version of this Jeep? At Frankfurt, they showed two near-production-ready concepts.....the Patriot and the Compass. The vehicle in these photos looks like the Patriot....which Jeep said WOULD be tagged "Trail Ready" which would suggest fairly decent off-road ability. The Compass was built on the same chassis....but lowered to be more of a rally-racer type of compact Jeep and would NOT be labeled "Trail Ready."
January 4, 200620 yr Both Patriot and Compass are coming out. Unfortunately the Compass looks better with that black body cladding. Not sure why anyone would run spy photos today when the real thing is dropping in a few days. Anyway the patriot is a looker, like the classic cherokee. it will sell well. the compass is a bit over the top. not quite sure why they're doing both. I'm guessing Patriot will debut at Chicago. that's just a guess though.
January 4, 200620 yr Author Actually, the spy pics look like a hybrid of both the Patriot and Compass. Compass hood, Patriot wheels and ride height........unless the non-Rallye Compass sits up higher, or has more ground clearence than the Rallye version.

Yes it does ride higher and actually looks remarkably similar to this concept shot. They just redid the front fascia, where the problem lies in my opinion. it juts out like a bulldog with a bad underbite. otherwise you are staring at the production version. jsut with different wheels.
January 4, 200620 yr I would have to agree also. This particular vehicle looks more capable than either of these concepts shown. I just hope Jeep does not go softer and softer. Aren't they soft enough? First the Liberty now the Commander where are they going?

[post="67305"][/post] Ok, if one thing is clear after looking at these 2 photos it is that these are NOT on the same chassis. The Compass is the Dodge Caliber brother and the Patriot would be the LWB Liberty chassis that Dodge Nitro is going to be on.

Both are on the Caliber (Mitsubishi Lancer) platform. The Liberty (and Nitro) will be getting slightly larger. http://www.allpar.com/model/jeep/patriot.html

The Liberty is due to grow in size, while the Patriot and Compass take over for Liberty (one for offroad buyers, one for car based buyers).
January 4, 200620 yr Wow, that looks a lot nicer (and more capable) than the concept led on. I wonder if the interior will have the Jeep signature hard-as-rock plastics?
