January 3, 200620 yr Which one of these cars did not have an a pushbutton trans. available from the factory? 1957 Plymouth Belvedire 1960 Desoto Fireflite 1965 Chrysler Imperial 1958 Edsel Citation 1962 Chrysler Imperial
January 4, 200620 yr My gut reaction was the edsel, which makes sense, all the others are Chryslers and Chrysler did indeed make pushbutton trannys. Looking a little deeper (google) shows that the Edsel Citation doesn't not have a bushbutton auto. I'll go with the '65 Imperial.
January 4, 200620 yr I want a car with a pushbutton transmission. Not for any logical reason like that they dont take up space on the floor, or that they'd be easier to engage, no I want one so I can see if its true that you can push the reverse button in a little ways while driving on the highway and have the reverse lights turn on. And I've always had a really weird attraction to DeSotos.
January 4, 200620 yr '57 DeSoto: one of my top 5 favorite mainstream designs of all time. Bonus- I love the way 'Dee-SO-TOE' rolls off the tongue. My buddy had a copper over pale red Firedome hardtop with the 341 Hemi. Sweet machine.
January 4, 200620 yr Off topic.. but I was just scrolling through pics of Desotos and came across this: It reminded me of how ugly the '58 Mercury was: And then I though to myself.... were all the late 50's mid-range brands that ugly? Yep:
January 4, 200620 yr Author Ummm... they're only ugly when compared to their better looking counterparts from Buick, Dodge, Cadillac & Chevrtolet... just to name a few.
January 4, 200620 yr This was the pretty one: The one I posted earlier reminds me of those VW Beatles with a Rolls Royce grill pasted on.
January 4, 200620 yr Imagine that. The dash, wheel, headliners, door panels, and flooring all match the color of the interior. What else is the interior made up of?

January 5, 200620 yr Author Yeah indeed when Stude plastered taht stand-up grille on that sleek coupe it did ruin it... the HT body style on this Commander helps beutify it too instead of the fat door frames. That dashboard is horrendous though... well it's a C+ overall but the placement of the gauges gets a solid F.
