One thing I've noticed is that it looks like he is holding the radio, but the bezel that clips on and surrounds the faceplate is there.

How do I ask for the s/n without making sound weird/suspicious?

BS 'em. For example, say that you've been researching that particular model of stereo a bit and found out there was a recall affecting certain s/n's and you want to find out if his particular stereo falls into that range of specific s/n's.

Nail his ass!

Chances have to be good on this one.....granted there are many out there, but still....

Done.

I'll keep my fingers crossed DF.

If it turns out to be your stereo go to the police, show them the s/n in the e-mail and the s/n on the box and his Craigslist posting if possible. Then squash his ass flat.

Yep!

Yikes, I'd be afraid this would spook him if any serial # talk comes up whatsoever. He can check your story about recalls.

Worth a try though....

Anyway, went to the yard today, they wanted $75 for the crummy factory radio. No chance in hell. $60 poorer and I got a new window and center stack bezel. Thank you Toyota for bolting the regulator and other parts and not riveting them. The window is just wedged in there. Took about 10 minutes to get out. Took longer at home since I had to be more careful and the window was tricky to get back on the track.

Now there's just that big gaping hoel where the stereo and cupholders should be (they stole those too, since they were screwed to the stereo mount). :(

Whoa, looks simpler than I thought. Good.

Looking good so far...as far as the radio, maybe get a 'No Radio in Car' sign to use when parked (I've seen those in car windows in Big Bad City environments) and get a portable boombox and store it in the trunk when parked.

Or drop a blown (supercharged) Hemi in the prisim and listen to THAT music.

Seriously...nice job on the window, glad it went well for you.

He actually just sent pics now. It's not mine. That doesn't look like a GM harness adapter, I'm pretty sure I used blue quick connects for the wires, and I know I didn't zip tie them, let alone green(?)

Had to dig through my photobucket account, but here's the harness when it was connected to another stereo.

They're different.

How much does he want for it
  • Author

$50

Like I said, this radio was not a high end radio when it was new.

Well, knowing he didn't steal it, offer him $35 or $40 bucks if you want another one since the OEM stereo is more expensive.

You could probably find a higher quality used stereo for that much. If you're sure it's not yours, I'd look for something other than that one or a stock radio.

Well the junkyard I got the parts from wanted $10 for the cupholders, which seemed $5 too much to me, plus I had no mounting bracket for them. Today I stopped by a small junkyard in Lowell. They don't have largest amount of cars, but whenever I got there looking for something they always seem to have what I need. Today was no different. Found a Prizm that not only had the cupholders but even better, had an aftermarket radio housing. Price? $5 for the whole thing. Score! Saved myself $20. Cleaned it up and installed it. Now there's just a small hole where the stereo should be. Getting there...

Pics of course:

On another note, I realized today that despite going through the car, the dumbass didn't take any of the change that was in the astray, nor did he even take the remote that goes to the stereo he stole.

I have one of these that isn't in use.

So I found out that my car wasn't the only victim that night. the neighbor's green Prizm was broken into, and the upstairs tenant's car had marks on the door frame from where they tried to pry it open. So they were around for a little while. I so wish I would have caught them. We need surveillance cameras...and a gun. Sheesh.

Sucks that people are trash sometimes...

Good luck, DF!
