December 6, 200916 yr ...scoop up a temporary plow vehicle. Can't find what I'm really looking for, but I have to get something to clear this driveway with VERY soon. I was really hoping for a "one and done" scenario, but that's not looking too likely.
December 6, 200916 yr I would go for a GMT-400 and 350 or better yet a 454. Edited December 6, 200916 yr by gm4life
December 6, 200916 yr Author I've found a few possible "temp" vehicles, but most of them don't have plows yet.
December 6, 200916 yr Author I almost put this one into the running, but I'd hate to be stuck with it when I find what I really need. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/ctd/1497186934.html
December 6, 200916 yr There are a couple of old ex-army diesel blazers out there for sale.... Blazer 1 Blazer 2 Blazer 3 - This one is only about 30 minutes from me.... I could take a looksee for you.
December 6, 200916 yr There are a couple of old ex-army diesel blazers out there for sale.... Blazer 1 Blazer 2 Blazer 3 - This one is only about 30 minutes from me.... I could take a looksee for you. Nice! I would go for a GMT-400 and 350 or better yet a 454. Gas could be an issue there....
December 6, 200916 yr Author Those DOD Blazers are so tempting because of the miles, but between the lousy 6.2 diesel and the camo, I just don't think I can go there. Thanks for the offer though, much appreciated.
December 6, 200916 yr Author Gas could be an issue there.... Fuel consumption is not an issue. I wanted this truck very badly: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-Chevy-3500-Pickup-7-4-liter-Boss-Snow-Plow-2500_W0QQitemZ320452465087QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item4a9c7491bf Edited December 6, 200916 yr by Camino LS6
December 6, 200916 yr Author Here's a minimalist option: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1475810640.html
December 6, 200916 yr I believe the 6.2 was better than the 6.5, which ate injection pumps like popcorn at the movies... we had to keep injection pumps in stock for the 6.5, didn't keep much for 6.2s.
December 6, 200916 yr Author Pre-Duramax diesels (even reliable ones) are just something I can't stomach. Until I drove a Duramax, I was a confirmed diesel hater.
December 6, 200916 yr Author I would go for this one, except that I seem to remember a major taboo from both GM and the plow manufacturers about installing a plow on crew cabs in these years. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/ctd/1496896673.html
December 6, 200916 yr I would go for this one, except that I seem to remember a major taboo from both GM and the plow manufacturers about installing a plow on crew cabs in these years. ?? What difference would the cab make on having a plow (since the plow is at the front)?
December 6, 200916 yr Author That Dakota would be tempting... Chris It is tempting because it is a sharp-looking little truck and already has a plow. But, I'd be itching to get out of it from day one. I'd feel hamstrung in any compact pickup.

December 6, 200916 yr Author ?? What difference would the cab make on having a plow (since the plow is at the front)? I think it was an issue of stress on the frame due to the long wheelbase. As I recall, the plow installers were refusing to install on these trucks. GM wouldn't build them with the plow-prep package. I'd have to look into it again to be sure.

Actually I worked through college for a landscaper, and being in Muncie, Indiana we plowed a lot of snow in the winter. We had a CJ-7 that was great for smaller stuff, and 4WD fullsize fords and chevy's for larger stuff. The cab on those isn't a bad size...I'm a good sized guy and I'm comfortable in them. The Dakota + a larger truck would be a nice plow combo, I think. Would be perfect (the Dakota) for something like the smaller lot of a drug store or small church or something. Just my two cents. Chris
December 6, 200916 yr The Dakotas are more of a midsize, though...a lot bigger than a Ranger, S-10, Colorado, etc. +1 The Dakota is about 95% of an older F150 in size.
December 6, 200916 yr Speaking of offbeat plow trucks, for at least 2-3 winters, one of the guys that plowed my condo complex in Denver had a flat black '62 Dodge 4x4 stepside truck...was pretty shocking to look out and see a 45 yr old truck plowing the streets. December 6, 200916 yr Dakotas are much bigger than S10's, Ranger, and Colorados. Plus they were for the longest time the only non full size truck to offer a V8.

Chris Perfectly logical, but I have other tasks for a pickup that would be beyond the Dakota. If I were to keep the Mothertruck, all sorts of options for the plow vehicle would be workable. I'd prefer to get into a nice 3/4 ton and send the Mothertruck on its merry way. Also, whatever I get will have to do daily driver duties for a while as well.
December 6, 200916 yr Why not just finish the truck then and use that, rather than selling it at a loss?
December 6, 200916 yr Author Because the Mothertruck is way too long for the areas I have to plow - wouldn't work. And, because it would take too long to get ready.
December 6, 200916 yr Will you come and plow my driveway then? It's 20 feet long. Hey Camino, I hope those forecasters are right and we get buttloads of snow this winter so you can make good money.
December 6, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the good wishes Ocn, but I quit doing it commercially. I'm just doing the plowing that I'm obligated to do at this point. I may freelance a bit this winter if I get a chance, but I'm all done with doing a regular plow route. I'll be spending quality time with the race cars again until Spring.
December 6, 200916 yr Author Way too expensive for what it is, but this would make a great little plow beast. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1497952795.html

December 7, 200916 yr Author It might, but I'm trying to move on. Put it this way, if it makes sense I'll do it.
December 7, 200916 yr I'll be spending quality time with the race cars again until Spring. ...and your life sucks exactly...how? The Lotus 7 and Healy are two of my all time favorite cars. In this regard, I willbe just all to HAPPY to watch you suffer. Chris

December 7, 200916 yr Way too expensive for what it is, but this would make a great little plow beast. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1497952795.html If I were you, I would be all over that Jeep like flies on cow$h!. Do you realize how much fun Zora and Arkus would have riding in that beast with the top off in the summer time? Dude...Jeep...6 cyl...manual....nice plow. I'd offer them 5K for the truck and never look back. Looks like a NICE little truck. Hell....that's tempting even for me! Chris
December 7, 200916 yr It might, but I'm trying to move on. Put it this way, if it makes sense I'll do it. Positioning my friend, positioning. Get yourself in the position to move on with some cash and.... Good luck, seriously. You've got a Miata lovin' GM fan in Ohio pulling for you! Chris

December 7, 200916 yr I may have found something even better (if it's for real, that is). if they offer to ship it to you..... it's not real
December 7, 200916 yr Tomorrow I'll be messing with an E-Type... If I had the $, I would by you a new Silverado just to be able to lend a helping hand on the E type. Damn...an E type...you know well my love for THAT car! Chris
December 7, 200916 yr if they offer to ship it to you..... it's not real Camino loves banks from what I hear. Hence he just wired the money for that "local" truck to Nigeria... The guy on the phone seemed soooo honest.... Chris
December 7, 200916 yr Author Don't be too jealous, it's a late car ('74, I think), and in driver condition. Not the best color either, but still cool.

December 7, 200916 yr meh...not so much of a fan of the later cars. But cool none the less. Good luck on the 9th attempt to replace the Silverado. Chris
December 7, 200916 yr Author Yeah, what an ordeal. I'm just waiting on that return e-mail or phone call...
December 7, 200916 yr Camino I found this... I know it is not close but that seems like a darn good price for this thing, and yes it is a GMT-800! Just a slightly different kind of one, and yes I know it is not close to you, but miles are low and it looks to be in great shape. Plow And then there is this puppy with only 66K on the clock... December 7, 200916 yr If you need to have me go take a look see at one of the Ohio trucks, let me know! Chris
December 7, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the leads, guys. The one I was waiting to hear about turned out to be a scam. That stake body would be tempting were it closer. The hunt goes on.
