August 29, 200520 yr Benz-sourced turbo-diesel adds new dimension to Jeep's slick new Grand Cherokee The Benz V6s form an interesting backdrop to the Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD launched in Australia this week with an all-new, Mercedes-sourced 3.0-litre V6. The Grand Cherokee’s turbo-diesel winds out an impressive 160kW (at 4000rpm) as well as the expected mountain of torque – in this case, 510Nm at a barely-spinning 1600rpm. This means it will accelerate from zero to 100km/h in a mere 9.0 seconds – half a second faster than the 4.7-litre petrol V8 version of the new Grand Cherokee. Just as importantly, the efficient oil-burner means the almost-2.2-tonne Grand Cherokee has fuel consumption figures that any regular full-size petrol-engined car would be proud of. > Full Article
August 29, 200520 yr Yea, you can buy a diesel Grand Cherokee in Europe. I wish that were the case in the states but once the low sulphur regs. kick in for 2007 we should start to see more advancement in U.S. diesels.
August 29, 200520 yr 160 kilowats = 215 (mechanical) to 218 (metric) horsepower 510 Nm = 376 foot-pounds of torque
August 30, 200520 yr As much as a 6.6 Duramax would be sweet in a Trailblazer, I can't see that happening. Why can't GM have a diesel for it's smaller SUV's? The diesel Liberty is having brisk sales. Is GM pretending it doesn't exist? [post="6202"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post] Once again, the regs. for diesels are about to change. The EPA won't go for an avalanche of diesels on the market just yet, they produce wayyy too much pollution at this time. There are several companies working on it and a solution is just around the bend. There's also the tastes of the American buyer, too many people remember the GM diesels of the 80's....... :omfg: Here are some good links on the subjet: http://www.dieselforum.org/ http://www.boschusa.com/AutoOrigEquip/Dies...chnologyCenter/ Read the Bosch article "diesel revolution" by their CEO, it's rather interesting!
