Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Bar Kit

Featured Replies

meguiars-clay-bar-kit.jpg

I recently purchased this product to use on both my '06 GMC Envoy and the wife's '08 Pontiac G6 during my spring break (less than two weeks away!!). If you have used this product before, care to share your opinion(s) on it? Any issues to be aware of? Will the kit be enough to do both of my vehicles? Anything else you want to share? TIA!!

Used it on my buddy's car-with great results!

I system wax my cars quite a bit (Meg's or Mother's), so I don't clay bar very often.

Though I am thinking about claying the Cobalt ( I think it could use it)

It's tough to say if you got enough....but hopefully both cars are in great shape paint wise. Though I think so..

The paint looks great on both the '06 GMC Envoy and the '08 Pontiac G6. The G6 was detailed last July and waxed with the Meguire's NXT wax, so while not in too bad of shape it will defintely benefit from the claybar job. At 4 years old, when you rub your hand alongside the Envoy it is not smooth, so I can't tell when it was last waxed (if ever), and feel the claybar will do a phenomenal job with the smoothness I am looking for (especially after the waxing). And it looks like I will have some great weather towards the end of this week and at the beginning of next week for spring break - sunny, warm, in the upper 60s/low 70s :smilewide:

I use the clay bar (either Mother's or Maguiars) every spring. It works great to get the grit and bugs and winter's worth of grime off the cars. It's well worth the time it takes to clay bar the whole car.

Can you use the claybar on glass surfaces and chromed plastic trim? How about clear plastic and black plastic trim? On rims (especially chrome)?

Well GMT I have the exact same stuff. While it does work, it is just not near as effective as I had hoped it would be. I have found I prefer just keeping a layer or two of wax on the cars and not worrying about using the clay bar so much. So spots you are better off going after wet with you finger-nails. I used it on both my Chevy's last summer to remove the trouble spots. I have yet to use it on either of my Pontiac's mainly because I haven't found a spot that needed it yet.
