Não me esqueci, mas fui muito directo:

I just told him that I want to move out of Portugal once the Masters' Thesis is approved and I get my degree (should be a year and a half from now), and that I'd appreciate his help in contacting the local partners in the country I want to go live in when the time comes. I didn't resign: that has to be done in writing around here.

If he makes the decision to offer me a (not-so-)golden-handshake now I'm tempted to take it and go do something else for the time it takes for the thesis to be ready. Maybe some part-time or temp work, something that is strictly 9-to-5 work.
