February 25, 200620 yr Danke Schein Which is wrong it should be Danke schön—thanks beautifully—schein means "light" (think shine). German schöne (beautiful), is equivalent to English sheen. The words are closely related to schein/shine, the sense being of "radiant" beauty. The "radiant", "bright" and "shining" senses now dominate in English, as the connection with shine is more apparent, leading to the more common noun. Edited February 25, 200620 yr by thegriffon
