Where is your automotive fetish taking you all at the moment?

I've been obsessing on F1 this year..got back into watching it last season after several years away from it...also been reading about vintage F1 (esp. the late '70s-early '80s turbo era) and watching videos on Motorsport Retro, reading Motorsport magazine, and F1 Racing mag. I was really into F1 as a kid and growing up, drifted away from following it in the mid '90s. Started collecting F1 model kits and diecast lately...

Also getting back into following Indy racing, after not paying attention for years..watched the Indy 500 this past weekend, plan to go to the Indy race at Infineon in August.

If I could take off the next few weeks and go to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, 24hrs of LeMans, and British Grand Prix I'd be a very happy camper.

I'd like to indulge more in my 1:1 car interests, but that's not practical right now.

Sometimes Dormant is good...it gives you a chance to fall back and find new direction...

I'm huge into the whole open wheel thing right now, and racing is just in my blood...can't seem to change THAT. And glad you found motorsports retro..with that...I may just forget what my wife and children look like....

Speaking of Duesenberg I got a few cool Doozy "toys" recently.

First, a few weeks back I bought a box full of 1:24 model cars.

All of them were 40+ years old and all were molested, broken,

banged up & covered with decades of dust & some even

missing major components/pieces.

The diamond in the rough was an 80% complete Duesenberg

SJ dual cowl phaeton that was very damaged & had several

pieces broken beyond repair.

Here it is after I made some missing pieces from scratch, found

a few other pieces in my 1:24 model kit junk boxes & then

reassembled the whole thing to once again look like a proud &

elegant Duesenberg DCP.

Another recent score at a yardsale this past week end:

So that means I now have four 1:64 HW Duesenbergs.

That Dusenberg is sweet, sixty eight...it has the patina of age to it...and really has the "feel" of a real car...

My seventeen year old son Joel is really into guitar...there is LOTS of cool stuff to enjoy and own.

I've been practicing fairly religiously since February. I grew sort of tired of being the guy who could play with a guitar rather than actually play it well. What I mean by that is, I grew tired of playing music that was popular in the local music scene around here and to play that brand of rock/metal, that's all you really gotta know how to do.

I've really sort of lost myself in Pink Floyd and Rory Gallagher these days. Gallagher really made blues click for me more so than SRV.

As for how there is still plenty of cool stuff to left enjoy, I credit it mostly to guitars themselves not undergoing major changes, even electric guitars. Sure, you have electric guitars with active pickups, tone boost controls, tone circuit controls, and so on, but you can still buy electric guitars that are very similar if not exactly the same in construction to the originals. The Fender Telecaster initially debuted as the Fender Broadcaster in 1950, and, yep, Fender still does make a guitar exactly like it. Same story for the Stratocaster. Typically, this market refuses to accept any shocking standard equipment and overly complex stuff is a guaranteed failure or met with lukewarm response at best (Gibson Robot Guitars for example).

Amplifiers are a different story, though ...

I used the Model-A & Model-T parts cars from that box to piece it back together. It was unpainted, molded in grass green. I painted it in navy blue & then sanded it down to give it a somewhat convincing patina.

Very cool, and referring to another of 68's photos above, I had that Mini Cooper and the Unimog. They're all gone now.

My son plays electric guitar in a band- recently I've been dealing with the graphics package for their debut EP. My printer suxs so I've been to Kinko's 4 times so far and I have another trip scheduled for this weekend. Hand-cut & fold- want it done right you have to do it yourself.

Meh- it was primarily their direction.

Have been slowly cleaning up my shop.

I need to rewire my 2500HDs blower but I don't want to.

I made the snub-nose machine gun hood ornament from a .50 cal German MG from my (Me.109G / Ju.88 A4) Mistel 1 kit.

(it would be mounted in the nose of the plane if it were a regular production Ju.88)
