Hours After Getting The Cobalt Back From The Shop...

Featured Replies

Last week, we had the Cobalt in the shop to repair the dent and scratch left by the rock-flinging lawnmower. On Thursday, we got the car back. The good news, no more dent:

The bad news, my inspection ran out.

And then... hours later, my dad was out in the Sunfire and senile old man backed into him on Main Street.

The Cobie looks good. The Sunfire does not. Prolly best to put a used door on the Pontiac (likely cheaper than the labor to fix the existing door) and blend the fender and quarter.

From the looks of the sunfire ......... drive it to death

Do dealer bodyshops still actually do metalwork, as opposed t just bolting on a new part?

Yes, we certainly do metal work. I was looking at it from a dollar point of view. Look how many dents are in that door. Think of how many ways that door skin is stretched. Think of the labor involved, and then think of how cheap a used door would be for the car, and the relatively small amount of labor to disassemble a used door to paint it to match. Either way, for a proper paint match, the adjacent panels will need blended.

If this is going on the old guy's insurance. If this were a cash deal, and Viper's mom decided to forgo a perfect paint match by NOT blending, then yes, with prolly 8 or 9 hours labor to repair that door, it could be done. IF the side guard beam is not compromised.

And the Curse starts again (knock on wood)

But I'm so sorry you guys got a second portion of being crapped on. They might make it right in the shop but not in our heads. XD

That sucks, sorry to hear. Cobalt looks good though.

Yup, I'm with O.B. about the door.

When it rains, it pours. Sounds like the snippet I just posted about finding a hit on my back bumper, fixing it, then who nails 3 orange poles...mom.

Geez. Your door looks new now, though :AH-HA:

Turns out, this was just a teaser of events to come.

I see what you did there.
