New Jobs at GM for Dewar, Jackson

Featured Replies

Several GM executives are being given different positions, including Brent Dewar and Mike Jackson. Here is a link to the entire story from The Auto Channel.

I don't know one of these people from the other. Is this a good thing?

As part of the changes, a man named Pete Gerosa will get a "special assignment" focusing on the North American turnaround. Gerosa is to "focus on implementing sales and service programs and distribution strategies that are integral to GM’s North American turnaround plan," but how effective can he really be if he plans to retire later this year?

General Motors Corp. names Brent Dewar vice president-field sales, service and parts, one of several changes the auto maker is making to its North American vehicle sales, service and marketing (VSSM) staff, effective March 1.

Dewar, currently GM-North America vice president-marketing and advertising, replaces Pete Gerosa, who will retire later this year after serving 42 years in various roles at GM.

In the interim, Gerosa will head a special sales and service assignment the auto maker says is crucial to its North American turnaround effort. He will continue to report to Mark LeNeve, GMNA vice president-VSSM.

Mike Jackson, GMNA’s Los Angeles-based Western regional general manager, will succeed Dewar as vice president-marketing and advertising.

Susan Docherty, GM’s general manager of the Hummer luxury brand, will fill the void left by Jackson’s appointment.

Responsibility for the Hummer brand now will fall to Martin Walsh, executive director-sales and marketing support.

GMNA South Central Regional General Manager Larry Hice will be tasked with replacing Walsh, while Kurt McNeil, Western regional sales manager, will replace Hice, GM says.

Personally I wouldn't be doing anything Gerosa except putting him out to pasture. He was head of Cadillac Sales and Service from 1986 to 1999 apparently. This has to be considered one of the darkest periods for the Cadillac motor division and I don't see the point of rewarding someone for mediocre performance. Particularly in the area of service Cadillac has not been up-to-snuff as compared to competitors. You can argue about the lack of desirably product as a reason for lackluster sales but you can't blame bad service on anything but management.

These are the kinds of appointments that really make you wonder if GM gets it. They need to bring in some people from outside who have been successful in their past careers and can bring the benefits of their experiences to GM. Fresh blood.
