June 23, 201015 yr I'm thnking of cars that were once ubiquitous on American roads but now are little remembered, let alone seen. Think of this as an older car version of the "cars that have gone missing thread". The cars that have gone missing long enough to be generally forgotten. Chevy Monza Ford Torino Ford LTD VW Thing Have at it!
June 23, 201015 yr Chrysler Cordoba Ford Granada 71-76 Fullsize Gm cars(except for Chevy) Ford Fairmont 77-79 T-Bird 80's Midsize LTD
June 23, 201015 yr Kind of obscure new, very obscure now--Ford Elite Any non-Nova X body (Apollo, Skylark, Ventura, Phoenix, Omega)
June 23, 201015 yr Author Good call on the Elite! Non-Nova X-bodies too. The Ranchero almost qualifies.
June 23, 201015 yr Other than car shows, seeing most anything from the mid '80s or older is kind of a rarity around here. Even at car shows, '67-70 Cougars seem to be rarities....about the only time I ever see them is when I visit my Mom in Ohio and go in the barn.
June 23, 201015 yr Author I thought about the Cougar, but people seem to remember them. Sort of on a par with Ranchero, I'd say. Chrysler Cordoba Ford Granada 71-76 Fullsize Gm cars(except for Chevy) Ford Fairmont 77-79 T-Bird 80's Midsize LTD Good list!
June 23, 201015 yr Author One more before I head-off to the Healey garage. The original Dodge Magnum (coupe).
June 23, 201015 yr - ANY Ford Tempo, more so the Mercury Topaz (I helped by junking 2nd gen.lipstick red Topaz sedan I got for free & buying a 1st gen. Topaz coupe & promptly destroying it in the Demolition Derby after which it was smoooshed in a crusher) - 1973-up Blazer (k5) "Convertible" with removable hard top. - 1st Gen. Ford Escort (Mercury Lynx / Tracer) - Mazda Navaho - Geo Storm - Chevrolet Citation (nevermind the Pontiac Phoenix!) - Diamond Star based, hatchback Plymouth Laser / Dodge Charger - Honda CRX [both gens.] Edited June 23, 201015 yr by Sixty8panther
June 23, 201015 yr - 1973-up Blazer (k5) "Convertible" with removable hard top. Saw one of these a few min ago, was orange and white two tone...no top, no windshield or winshield frame...just a black roll cage.. - 1st Gen. Ford Escort (Mercury Lynx / Tracer) Even more so, the diesel versions. Wish my Mom had kept ours, had it up until '00..
June 23, 201015 yr Despite of the name in enthusiasts, I personally think Chevelle can be classified as one of them. And Corvair if not for Ralph Nader.
June 23, 201015 yr Author Despite of the name in enthusiasts, I personally think Chevelle can be classified as one of them. And Corvair if not for Ralph Nader. I couldn't disagree more. Not only are they not forgotten, I see both with regularity.
June 23, 201015 yr I couldn't disagree more. Not only are they not forgotten, I see both with regularity. Definitely not forgotten. I see them at shows...don't see them on the road, maybe a couple Chevelles every 6 months or so.
June 23, 201015 yr Author Definitely not forgotten. I see them at shows...don't see them on the road, maybe a couple Chevelles every 6 months or so. That surprises me a bit, I would have expected to see more in "rust-free" Arizona than here in humid PA. I don't think a week goes by that I don't see a Chevelle on the road (winter excepted). And I see Corvairs every two months or so.

I don't think a week goes by that I don't see a Chevelle on the road (winter excepted). And I see Corvairs every two months or so. Maybe it's just a factor of where I drive the most...freeways, some city, some suburbia..mostly late model and new cars..don't see many old cars out and about.
June 23, 201015 yr ...which brings to mind the Renault Alliance, in notchback and awkward hatchback bodystyles.
June 23, 201015 yr ...which brings to mind the Renault Alliance, in notchback and awkward hatchback bodystyles. I can't recall when I last saw an Alliance, or any US market Renault. Wasn't the Alliance hatchback called the Encore? Remember the Fuego? Likewise for the Renault based Dodge Monaco and Eagle Premier...been years since I've seen one..
June 23, 201015 yr Yup, see, I even forgot they gave the ugly duck hatchback a different name... Encore.
June 23, 201015 yr Author I remember seeing quite a few Fuegos... at first that is. Good call on the Renaults. I'd add Pugeot (sp?) Our local Benz dealer sold them (a few that is) for years.
June 23, 201015 yr seen a jeepster the other day. how about the little dodge rampage trucks? the little turbo dusters are around from time to time. the 80's daytonas and the omnis too.
June 24, 201015 yr I couldn't disagree more. Not only are they not forgotten, I see both with regularity. I am yet to see a Corvair in FL, and I have seen Chevelles three times.
