July 11, 201015 yr IIRC from my days as a parts counter guy, they are color-coded. (the wire wheel lock key, either metal or plastic) Edited July 11, 201015 yr by ocnblu
July 11, 201015 yr Author Oh and Drew, make SURE that you get the key for the wire wheels - it sucks alot not to have it. Yeah, I know about that one. The guy I'm buying it from is a fellow Toronado lover. He's tried to take good care of it.
July 11, 201015 yr They are a pretty rare sight. There's actually one in the town I live now, but it's in rough shape.
July 11, 201015 yr I may never have cared for this car (or its siblings), but they stood out in any crowd from day 1. Nothing is quite like them. And, I actually owned one from '82. Nice Toronado. Very nice indeed. I did not know had one. Wow.. You learn something new every day.
July 14, 201015 yr Author Got it home today. LOVE IT! I invited the former owner to join us on CheersandGears. I think he would fit in well here. I have some nit pick things to address, but it's a complete daily driver right now. I will be needing tires soon though. There is a bad shimmy over 55mph and the tires seem dry rotted.

Congrats and glad you got it home safely! You address those issues, you should be good to go after checking the car out in all other areas. Congrats!!
July 14, 201015 yr Author Yeah, my friend Dominic and I will be going over it with a fine tooth comb, correcting anything we find out of place, and cleaning as we go.

I hope all goes well with what you are planning to do. You are taking me back. I did that starting in 2007 and made a project out of it and brought my Toronado to where it is now. It took money and time, but it was fun too.
July 14, 201015 yr Glad it's home, you deserved to find this one. Best of luck in making it ship-shape.
July 14, 201015 yr Congrats on the find and purchase. I've passed by one the last couple of weeks in Hamilton on the way to the wife's OB/GYN visits; of course this one isn't as nice as the one you bought. But every time I passed it I thought of you and your desire to find one. Your quest for now is over. Enjoy the car as much as you can!!

July 23, 201015 yr Author another moment wishing that I had audio... Next time I drive through philly, I'm stopping and fixing that for you. REMIND ME.
July 23, 201015 yr Darn...that thing is way too nice to drive through a PA winter.... Now you need a winter beater... Again..congrats....
July 23, 201015 yr Author Darn...that thing is way too nice to drive through a PA winter.... Now you need a winter beater... Again..congrats.... November timeframe, back in the market for an S-10/Sonoma
July 23, 201015 yr S10 is a darn nice little truck...went out to dinner with a friend of mine tonight that has one....he bought it new in 95 and it still runs like a million bucks... But the Ohio winters have not been kind to it....
July 23, 201015 yr Author Now that I have the Toronado, I can be a lot less fussy about the truck and the condition it's in.
July 23, 201015 yr Now that the 1980s cars like you and I have are very old they are going up in value and collectability. I like your Toronado. I almost bought a 1982 once. A friend had a nice 1981 but in his infinate wisdon didnt check his brake job and ended up destroying it in a bit of a crash.
July 23, 201015 yr I see no problemo with the tone of that pipe. However, mister, WHAT DID YOU DANGLE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA THERE AT THE END? Explain yourself!
July 23, 201015 yr Interesting exhaust noise...there was some sort of wierd creaking noise right before the end of the video. And that garage looks really narrow and tiny!
July 23, 201015 yr Author That noise at the end was me lowering the power window. The exhaust isn't going to stay.
July 23, 201015 yr The work begins on the Toronado. Nice to see you driving it and doing things with it.
July 23, 201015 yr Author The work begins on the Toronado. Nice to see you driving it and doing things with it. Yeah, I should probably start a Project Toronado thread.....
July 23, 201015 yr Yeah, I should probably start a Project Toronado thread..... I wished I would have, but I did document all the work I had done and all the things I had replaced on my Toronado. I wrote it out in a different way.
