Lets get this clear C&D. Mitsubishi != Toyota

I love my new Q but 9 times out of 10 durable is the last thing I'd call a Japanese car. As far as Mitshubishi their cars are about as durable as a wet piece of

68, you should check out this issue of C&D. They took an '83 Datsun Maxima diesel on a Michigan to California trip along with an '82 Olds Royal diesel and an '80 Benz 300SD diesel.

WOW, C&D must've had some input on that CR list since they are giving Mitsu a "save your ass" boost this month too.

Old domestics are the only thing that that they can throw in our faces. If you live in the NE, all the japanese brands of that era are just little piles of brown rust that have long since just blown away.

Did they say where the cars were obtained? My quess is that the Olds was picked up at a used car lot in Michigan while the Datsun was an Arizona garage queen.

The old MB IL 5-Cyl. engines were already true quality masterpieces. Designed to last, then be rebuilt to last again. However, MB also had some major and frightening rust issues until the mid to late '80's.

They found the Olds in Ohio, the Benz in Buffalo, NY and Maxima in LA.

The Benz was in terrible shape and needed work before they could get it to run. $1400

The Olds was owned by a Dubya Dubya 2 vet and they picked it up for $750.

The Maxima had 235k miles on it, but Nissan SoCal gives the car a free going over before the race. $1500

The guys in the Olds won the race/scavanger hunt.
