i had never even heard of a studabaker champion until i saw that so i know nothing about it

My favorite Studebakers from this era are the "Starlight Coupes" That wrap around rear window is devine!

But pretty much any Bullet nose Studie is cool. Love that Airplane inspired styling.

Now as far as the one youy posted it looks as if it has been sitting in that field since the Nixon Administration. Probably a lot of Rot and missing pieces on that one.

Our first car, when I was about 13, was a 4 year old, 1951 Studebaker Commander Starlight coupe. Commanders had Studebakers new V8 and an automatic transmission.

It was a great car and we kept it about 3 years. I almost polished the paint off the car, waxing it every month. The V8 had lots of guts, but did burn some oil.

We traded it for a 1957 Ford Custom 300, with a 292 V8 and three on the tree. It was the car I learned to drive stick on.

When I was a kid my dad bought new '48, '49, and '50 Studebaker Champions and later a used '50 model. Trust me, those cars were junk. It's amazing that you still see some of them driving around today.

Yes, the differance was mostly the curb weight... about 2800 lbs, or about the same as a Saturn Ion.

Champ is a Lark-based pick-up: a compact/mid-size, but no full-size. There were a number of co-existing full-size Studie pick-ups (Transtar was one).
