I got out of my house this morning to discover my car was hit and run. The driver's side of the car was sideswiped from behind, leaving a gash along the rear door, quarter panel, rear bumper, and rear wheel. More worryingly, though, is that the alignment is off; the poor thing now veers right.

The Passat has a twist-beam rear axle, and I'm guessing the beam is bent. There really aren't any rear alignment settings for it (I just had the car aligned a few weeks ago, along with new rear shocks).

Anyone know if a rear beam can be knocked back to spec, or am I looking at a new axle? I don't have collision insurance coverage on it.

No, at Oxy. Must have been some drunk students after yesterday's football game. The only colors I see are white on sheetmetal and black on the wheels, presumably from their tires. Unbelievable how irresponsible some people are, ugh.

Boo. Well, I don't know how big Oxy is, or how dense the student housing areas are, but did you report it? Might be able to track whoever down, though it's a long shot.

About the white marks: clearcoat appears white when it is disturbed. Are you sure it is actually white paint, or is it possibly just clearcoat residue that has accumulated from the scrape?

I am so sorry. I know how frustrating that can be. I can imagine your frustration. I know your feelings and emotions. I am so sorry. Please let us know how this is resolved and worked out.
