Bummer...

Wow, it's been a rough week. Got worse when I got home though.

While I was gone, someone decided to steal the Catalytic converter off of my Cavalier.

Somehow, I get the feeling that they are not done yet. And 320 or so to replace.

I've noticed that the locals are quickly sapping up my love for cars....

Dave, that's disgusting! They just jacked it up, crawled under it, and cut off the converter? Amazing, the nerve, the desperation of some individuals.

The $320, is that for GM, or an aftermarket converter? Is there a way you can get a complete system out of a salvage yard, or are the converters cut off when the car hits the yard?

Its against federal law to install a used Cat on a car, so a lot of junkyards don't want to sell them. $320 sounds like a dealership price or for it to be installed. I've never paid more than $140 for a catalytic.

I'm surprised they'd do it on a car. Normally, its more common to happen on SUVs, where no jacking up is needed. Best argument yet for having a in-the-weeds stance.

She goes in tomorrow for a new cat....ghetto rigged the rest of the exhaust with pipes to hold it up.

The 320 is for the cat and the labor to weld it in. (It's a shop I trust)

Times are rough around here, and they will steal them off anything with wheels...

Sounds like a rough 'hood.

Dave, where are you living?

Metro Detriot's west wide: around Dearborn, Wayne and such...

Did they use a Sawszall? I would think that the neighbors would hear that...

Well, I suppose if you don't mine the weight penalty, have the shop weld in some extra steel supports along the exhaust... so that thieves would have to cut 10' of exhaust out or cut through double the steel... I would think any potential thief would see that and move to an easier target.

Wow... glad I'm not in the Detroit area.

I would be driving a true Mad Max car if I thought I was going to have serious theft problems.

Detroit is such s sh*thole. Sorry to hear about your problems. If I caught the guy doing that to my car he'd be in a coma.

Agreed.

I'm looking at closer to 500 now, as they managed to bust the o2 and some other stuff on there. Sucks.

Be she willed be fixed.
