April 15, 200619 yr Merriam has several different pronunciation variations: en-claive (en as in pen, ai- as in day[i is modified to y at the end of words for clarity]) aun-claive or aunclauve (au- as in bother) auŋ-clauve (ŋ=ing/eng, in sing, saŋk) I go for aunclaive. The -clave is from clavus=key, and refers to a gated community, specifically of foreign origin.
