March 17, 200620 yr I would guess the CRT-screen Rivieras and Toronados in terms of a full driver's information center. I believe the Cadillac Seville was first with an electric fuel economy computer.
March 17, 200620 yr Author Not the E-Bodies. I'm not 100% sure if my model answer is accurate, though. It's earlier than that.
March 18, 200620 yr I guess it depends on your definition... are we talking a DIC that is located below the main gauges or is the location irrelevant?
March 18, 200620 yr Author An actual DIC, just like the ones that are installed in the newer GMs. On a Cobalt it's on the dash, on my G6 it's in the radio. Exact same thing. Edited March 18, 200620 yr by ToniCipriani
March 18, 200620 yr was it the camaros made with the digital dash in the early or mid 80s? i cant remember the years... maybe 86?
March 18, 200620 yr Author No, no, not the dash. DIC. The same one in the Cobalt and the G6 and many others.
March 19, 200620 yr I know the '80 Seville has a DIC, but something in my mind says a precursor to that was in the '78 Seville. Not the same thing but the 'father' of the DIC.... EDIT: Came back to me: whatever the specifics of it's capabilities, the '78 Seville had something available called TripMaster. Edited March 19, 200620 yr by balthazar
March 19, 200620 yr Author I'm starting to think my answer is incorrect. I was to say 1984 Pontiac 6000 STE. It was standard. Edited March 19, 200620 yr by ToniCipriani
March 20, 200620 yr An actual DIC, just like the ones that are installed in the newer GMs. On a Cobalt it's on the dash, on my G6 it's in the radio. Exact same thing. The way you worded this question the answer is 1997 Corvette. The first main stream cars to get it after that were the Impala & Monte Carlo twins in 2000. The Pontiac 6000 certainly did not have a scrolling readout of all things. Esp. not one including keyless entry programing, all idiot lights in ttext form, idiot lights, oil change reminders, fluid life percentages and emergency readouts.
March 20, 200619 yr GM had such a wide variety of systems, I think its hard to just say "this was the first DIC."
