October 31, 201015 yr Two days ago I spotted an old Chevy dump truck in the distance. As I got closer to it, I realized it was the truck I built in the early nineties! It's a '78 LWB C-30 with a 454 that I re-bodied and painted to match my '90 Silverado. Amazingly, that old 454 (original) is still going strong, although the rest of the truck is quite battered at this point. It turned onto my road behind me and I stopped to talk with the owner who loves the old beast. It was loaded with woodchips and making a delivery in my neighborhood. We chatted about the truck and both of us got to grinning and laughing at the unlikely encounter. Left me in a much better mood, and with a big smile. This is what it looked like when I had it:
October 31, 201015 yr Author It was. Today, it is a battered hulk by comparison - but still working hard and earning money. It's on its third owner since me! Has to have 250k on it by now, at least. Even with a bad exhaust, the sound of that old big block was instantly familiar. And I don't mean that in a generic way, it was the sound of that specific engine that I remembered.
October 31, 201015 yr Cool man. I know how you feel... last week on the way to work, I pulled up next to my '02 shortie Silverado at a stoplight, still with a shaved clean tailgate and 3 inch Gibson exhaust system. It no longer has the Tahoe grille (more chrome than the pickup grille), because the guy had a fender bender a couple of years ago, and it was replaced with the normal pickup grille. It's still a goodlooking truck.
November 1, 201015 yr Author I wish I hadn't lost the pics I took during this project - it was quite the transformation.
