Hyundai Reports New Sales Record for August With Nine Percent Increase Over 2004

Tucson Breaks All-Time Monthly Retail Sales Record


FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America sold 42,113 units during the month of August, posting a nine percent increase compared with a year ago.
Hyundai's all-new 2006 Sonata, which Edmunds.com recently evaluated stating, "Not only is the Sonata as nice as Accord and Camry, it's quite a bit better in many key areas," posted a 75 percent increase in retail sales compared to the prior month. In addition, Hyundai's award winning SUV, the Tucson, broke its own all-time monthly record with retail sales of 6,422 beating the previous record of 5,975 units. Elantra and Accent sales each increased by more than 30 percent over the same period last year.

"We're very pleased to see consumer acceptance continue to grow for the new Sonata. The Sonata has been recognized not only by Edmunds.com but by numerous leading publications as a true leader in the mid-size sedan category," said Ed Bradley, Hyundai's vice president of National Sales.
