Some quality writing courtesy of the May 2006 C&D

C&D needs to hire some new editors; this blurb from the "news" section is just terrible:

The practically glued-to-the-floor Pontiac Montana SV6 will also be escorted behind the barn and shot after the 2006 model year. Pontiac tells us the van doesn't fit in with the image and awesomeness of the brand.

Awesomeness?

And something tells me they wouldn't have said the same about a Toyota being shot behind the barn.

Uh...Car and Driver is the epitome of awesomeness, so, what's the problem? Not fetch enough for you?

Anyway, did you guys see that write-up about the R-Class? They said it was 'totally crunk.' Awesome!

sounds pretty biased "awesomeness of the brand" that is really biased, wether they are biased towards a comapny i like id rather read something else, i didnt renew my C&D b/c of how biased they are. i like motor trend..

the car mags have become useless and self important. they do serve a purpose for test results. but that's about it. 95% of the auto journalists are at a level just below cow dung.

Looks like C&D (Crap&Drivel) is really "down" with their vocabulary skillz.

Why do I still have a subscription to them?

LOL....

Nahh, they'd actually keep it professional and "asskissingness" with Toyota or the check would get "lostinthemailness"

They've successfully made the domestic industry the butt of all jokes for years, so that's how people view them. Oh, and uh, apparently C&D is written by 8 year olds now.

But, "goodforyouness" Pontiac... The SV6 was a bad idea to begin with.

I pretty much agree that the Montana should be "taken behind the barn and shot" also.

strangely, I see more Relays and Terrazas then I see Uplanders <not counting that one Xerox rep I see driving an Uplander nearly every day>. I've seen one montana CSV ever and it had an enterprise sticker on it.

Uplanders <not counting that one Xerox rep I see driving an Uplander nearly every day>.

What's the deal with that? I see Xerox Uplanders all over the place.

So the trifecta of 2000 Scion part 1 awsomeness of the Toyota Echo, MR2 Spyder and Celica would never have been referred to as being "shot". ONLY the Echo is ever mentioned as "Toyota's rare failure" though I was able to name three from one year.

Uh...Car and Driver is the epitome of awesomeness, so, what's the problem? Not fetch enough for you?

Anyway, did you guys see that write-up about the R-Class? They said it was 'totally crunk.' Awesome!

"crunk" as in "crazy drunk"???

Awesomeness? Well... C&D is better than MT, so I don't care. :D

Oy. Why oh why did they have to give Dan Neil a Pulitzer? Now every auto writer in the world has decided to up the snark factor to 11 on their dials and have to sprinkle in "hip" jargon that comes across about as hip as Adam Carolla in a track suit and gold chains....

What's wrong with you guys? "Awesomeness" is a perfectly cromulent word. Haven't school teached you anything?

Come on now.

Even though they're biased, I enjoy reading C&D for the smart-assed, irreverent comments like this. They typically don't take themselves too seriously.

No one here is actually defending the Montana, right?

Um....

I'm wondering if that was a quote from someone inside GM, the way its worded it almost sounds like they're paraphrasing something they were told by someone inside GM or they're trying to put words in the mouths of GM execs.

By the way, awesomeness is in the dictionary.

And Pontiac really doesn't have much of it right now anyway.
