For those of you who can't read the title, it's German for "What you cannot have". The Chevrolet Germany website went live this week with the build your own page for the 2011 Chevrolet Orlando. At this time, the selectable options are rather limited, but it gives you an idea of what a U.S. version might look like if General Motors ever decided to offer one here.

Pricing starts at €21,390 for a 1.8 liter gas engine plus 5-speed manual transmission which works out to a sky high $28,641 using today's exchange rates. Other power train configurations include a 2.0 liter diesel engine with your choice of 6-speed manual, a €1,900 ($2,544) upgrade, or a 6-speed automatic for €3,300 ($4,418).

You can have your Orlando in any color you like as long as it's Olympic White. Any of the 6 other available colors require a €490 upcharge. Interior is listed as black mesh cloth only and only one choice of alloy wheels.

A Navigation system is available for a relatively reasonable €800 (navigation systems on Opel models appear to be €900 to €1,300 depending on capabilities)

Fully optioned up (without extended warranties) the Chevrolet Orlando tops out at €25,980 which works out to an eye popping $34,787. By contrast, the closest GM competitor, the Opel Zafira starts at a lower price and can be optioned up much higher.

GM has opted to offer the Orlando in nearly every country except the one where it's namesake is located. In fact, even our friends to the north in Canada will be offered the new Chevy MPV. We still think this car would do well here, however the pricing and options would clearly need to be adjusted for the U.S. market.

it'd be a nice option to have. But the interior I think needs some work. The biggest issue with the vehicle is it would need a better engine in the US.

I dunno, a 2.0 diesel with 258 ft-lb from 1700 - 2500 rpm sounds kinda nice. That's more torque than the non-DI 3.6 V6 at any rpm.

Pass I was not a big fan of this before and it has yet to grow on me.

GM needs to better here if they want make a dent in the market.

People in this small class in the states don't care about 7 passengers they want neat and cute. That is why the Soul is a runaway hit. Anyone here wants to haul more they buy something larger. The Suv, CUV and small Mini Van markets in Europe and the State just don't want the same things in many areas. This is one area the world platform will have issues dealing with.

Yeah, I'd rather have a Meriva. The mediocrity is to be expected, as everywhere outside of US and Canada, Chevrolet is the budget brand that replaced Daewoo. Opel is more on par with Ford.

Speaking of practicality, the Orlando compared to the Equinox...

Lower MSRP

Better MPG

Lower curb weight

Seats more people

More interior space

Smaller exterior footprint

Six-speed manual standard

Equinox all day, baby. Those extra seats? You have to have lived through the agony of being a double amputee to make use of them. Or under the age of three.

I'd rather have an Equinox too...

This is akin to a Kia Rondo, the Equinox is at least akin to a CRV or Escape.

gm committed big bucks to expand equinox production.

plus, they have huge sticker prices.

they did not want the chance of this stealing sales from the nox, at lower prices and less profit.
