This is mostly for the folks who grew up in the Baltimore-Philadelphia suburban zones in the '60s-'80s.

Well, burned into the dark recesses of my childhood are trips to Ginos and Burger King, not McDonalds. Well, in the early '80s, Ginos were converted to Roy Rogers (which were left to dry up) and a major eating institution passed into the history.

Well, apparently, no more.

The popularity of places like Five Guys and Red Robin have demonstrated that there is a market for upscale burger restaurants, and many of the original Ginos people are putting together a new Ginos chain.

Apparently, the first location was opened in King of Prussia, PA in late 2010, to quite a bit of fanfare. And they are looking for new franchisees. www.ginosgiant.com

I went to Five Guys once- did NOT enjoy it. Very greasy, and tremendously overpriced.

Vaguely remember Gino's- but not sure we ever went there.

I would have though the segment was already over saturated, but apparently that's impossible.

On a burger tangent, I just read what a hideous heart attack one favorite burger is: Chili's Smokehouse Jalepeno. Apparently I cannot eat one, ever again, as I've seen it's numbers.

I too vaguely remember Gino's, they were in Lancaster when I was a tot. It'd be cool to see them back in this area again. Five Guys is a burger-lover's delight, too. All they serve is meaty, greasy burgers and fresh-cut fries... oh, and don't forget the in-shell peanuts while you're waiting.

I wanted to quickly tell the story behind my noticing that Gino's was back...

Well, one of the big things about Gino's was that they held the KFC territory for the mid-Atlantic. So for lots of people, Gino's=KFC, which wasn't really the case, but in any case Gino's was definitely associated with Fried Chicken. In 1982, Marriott, who owned Gino's started to sell locations (mostly to KFC, who were now free to open locations in the area) and convert other locations into Roy Rogers. Some hung on longer than others, but for the most part, Gino's has been gone for 28 years or so.

However, that don't remove it from the mind. My mother was going to visit a friend a few days ago who apparently was craving fried chicken... and out of the blue asked her to pick up something from Gino's or something.

Of course, that led to a discussion about how long its been since Gino's has been gone, and some web searching which led to the discovery that Gino's was now back.

Makes me wonder if another childhood fixture, Two Guys, will make a comeback... ;-) I don't think so.

Used to be a treat to go to Two Guys back in the day. I think the one in Lancaster was at the corner of Manheim Pike and Dillerville Rd, IIRC.
