March 16, 201115 yr UAW Meeting Next Week For Bargining Conference William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 16, 2011 The United Auto Workers union will hold their quadrennial bargaining conference next week. The conference will focus on negotiating new contracts with Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors. While the current agreement between the automakers and the union expire in September, UAW President Bob King says the union workers should be rewarded for the sacrifices made to help the automakers survive. “All the sacrifices that our members made to turn these companies around were part of the process that’s really led to this amazing turnaround. We want our membership to share in a very meaningful way in the upside of these companies,” King said in a January interview. Another topic of discussion at the conference will be how to stop the decline in the union membership. Currently, the UAW has 355,000 members. That's a large drop from when the union had 1.5 million members in 1979. The UAW is aiming at Asian and German auto companies who have factories in the US. King says he expects to organize a non-union factory by the end of the year. Source: Bloomburg
March 17, 201115 yr pay me my money back first And what money is that? My tax dollars. GM is going pretty good, but their account balance with the tax payers should get back to zero before they start paying out bonuses.
March 17, 201115 yr If the U.S. Government wasn't in such a rush to dump their shares, GM might actually get back to zero balance. But because of cries of "Socialism!!!", the Whitehouse has to get their fingers out of GM ASAP, which means GM will live with the stigma of taking government money for at least 30 years.
