General Motors Corp. says it has no official policy requiring suppliers to outsource work to low-wage countries. But several suppliers got the opposite message when they recently opened a bid package.

The companies were told in clear language that if they wanted the GM contract they had to acquire more than 30 percent of the parts from approved nations ranging from China to Namibia, according to documents obtained by The Detroit News.

They are setting themselves up for an " If they U.S. is'nt good enough for GM, Then GM is'nt good enough for the U.S. campaign."

Right now America is Cheating on GM. The Question is will there be a Divorce?

They're just doing what they have to do to survive... If the government won't fix things so that they can play fair, then WHY SHOULDN'T THEY CHEAT??????? WHY should they play fair when NO ONE ELSE HAS TO?!?!?! Maybe, just maybe americans will wake up someday and realize that their governments ineptitude combined with their own apathy will eventually destroy this country... But, IMO, until then F*** america, they sold GM out long ago.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you... Well, america DONE UNTO GM when they decided to "OUTSOURCE" their purchases and turnabout is MOST CERTAINLY fair play!

its a bigger market then the US Market...

i think because of bush globalism is spreading fast... the next president needs to focus on american lives, and american jobs...

It was interesting... I recommend reading 'The World is Flat' by Thomas Friedman..interesting book on globalization, outsourcing, etc..

only the worst internal affairs are the president's worry, congress is supposed to take care of what the country needs, the president should only push congress in the right direction.

aka stop blaming bush, write your congressman/woman to correct this problem of us not supporting GM.

The separation of powers of the three branches of overnment, as set forth in the constitiution, etc., say nothing about differentiating via the seriousness of the situation. Also the notion that the president is involved in internal affairs only is so totaly wrong as to be comical. The cheers and gears web site is a happier sainer place when we all limit our conversations to the quality of plastic dashboard pieces.

Don't forget panel gaps...they are as important as the quality of interior plastics.
