Mazda and Honda are suspending orders for vehicles built in Japan due to the earthquake and inventory problems. Mazda said it's shutting down it's plants in Hiroshima and Hofu. The plants which build the Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda5, MX-5 / Miata, RX-8, CX7 and CX9 were running last week for three days using parts in its inventory. However, Mazda will be idling plants starting this week due to part shortages. Mazda's U.S.spokesman Jay Amestoy said the decision to idle plants will only effect shipments of vehicles for May 2011. Amestoy also said it was uncertain when plants would go back online.

Honda has also suspended orders of the Fit, CR-V, Insight, CR-Z, Civic Hybrid, Acura TSX and Acura RL due to plant being on standby and possible parts shortages. No word yet on when production would resume.

good thing they prolly run lean.... oh wait.. if they kept lots of inventories they could keep building. darn.

Oh well, at least for the RX8 and RL the sales are already non-existent so this won't make a difference..

I guess Mazda shoppers will have to go with UAW-made Tributes and Mazda6s now.

this is going to ripple through the entire economy

I hope you were being sarcastic.
