i bought a 08 Lucerne several months ago. Once in a while the compass goes crazy, flipping between headings. Then, suddenly settles down and becomes accurate. Anyone else have this problem and any idea what might cause this? I'm wondering if things like high voltage power lines might cause a magnetic disturbance. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

It sounds like your compass is out of calibration. There is a reset procedure in the owner's manual. Apparently you need to drive the car in a circle three times as part of the procedure, so find an empty area if a parking lot.

Word for word correct. My parents bought one a few years ago, same thing happened. Find an open spot in a parking lot and start doing donuts after you select "recalibrate".

I did this with a Lucerne in a parking lot of Kohls in Yorba Linda CA. It was early in the AM but I still got odd looks driving the circles. It did stop the wacky compass.

I wonder if it will work if you drive backwards circles 3 times.. :)

I used to enjoy doing backwards donuts on empty snow covered college parking lots when I was a youf in Ohio..
