New CAT/Navistar International On Highway & Vocational trucks

Featured Replies

In case you weren't aware, there will be a new player on the streets this summer in the on-highway and vocational truck markets:

Caterpillar has decided to partner with Navistar International to offer two on-highway trucks, the CT610 and CT630 (basically rebadged Intertnational tucks) and for the vocational market (construction, garbage/refuse, mixers, logging, etc) there will be the CAT-designed CT660 class 8 truck:

These were introduced at the Conexpo-Con/Agg construction industry conference in Las Vegas back in March. The truck will be sold exclusively through Cat's North American dealer network, with orders accepted starting in April and should be available by the 3rd quarter of the year. The next version to be offered will be the CT680, a set-forward-axle version of this truck, which should be available in 2013.

Looks like Cat is going after Mack and Peterbilt here.

Interestingly enough, diecast and plastic "models" of the new Caterpillar CT660 truck will be available in the next couple of months:

PACCAR, who owns Peterbilt and Kenworth is a huge customer of Caterpillar. These trucks make no sense.

Very unbecoming. Also I don't see the point of them (the trucks).

The CT610 and CT630 I don't think are needed... they're just rebadged with new grilles International trucks. The CT660 will sell to CAT construction equipment owners looking to keep "everything in the family", and all of their service needs can be handled by one dealer/outfit. Though all of the orders for the CT660 from the Conexpo-Con/Agg construction industry conference have been sold out... and I can see the CT660 taking some business from the other heavy truck manufacturers (Mack, Peterbilt, Volvo, Kenworth).

It's like if John Deere contracted with GM to paint a bunch of TopKick's green and sell them at their own dealerships.

Well, it's been known to happen already (Sterling Trucks & Dodge/RAM)... the Sterling Bullet:

Nice to see another American maker manufacturing heavy trucks.

PACCAR is the last American owned heavy truck manufacturer... Like everything else; that industry has been whored out to the highest bidder.

NAVISTAR is still American Owned and they build class 8 trucks that look like harleys.

NAVISTAR ! and built so strong a City worker can't break 'em :smilewide:

I wonder how a CAT & mercedees garbage truck comparison test would shake out? ;)

Sounds like you're volunteering as a tester. Maybe Olds can get some tester vehicles. How often does a write like that happen?

Can't believe I forgot about Navistar.
