Today, Volkswagen officially released pricing details on its new 2012 Passat. Set to start below $20,000 before destination charges, it's clear that Volkswagen is taking it's new Americanized entry into the midsize segment seriously. As priced, the new Passat will undercut many of its biggest rivals by a few hundred dollars or fall right in line with the competition.

The news alot of people have been eager to hear is where Volkswagen's latest TDi diesel will be priced at. The answer is $25,995 before destination and that includes 17 inch alloy wheels, leatherette seating, heated seats, touchscreen stereo, and 6 speed manual transmission for the 43 mpg Passat. Not bad. Adding the DSG 6 speed automatic transmission and a sunroof will set you back $27,895 before destination.

If you're just looking for a bargain, you'll find yourself looking at a Passat S with the venerable 2.5L 5 cylinder and a 6 speed manual transmission, officially priced at $19,995 before destination. Standard features on the S model will include automatic dual zone climate control, power windows and locks, blue-tooth connectivity, steering wheel audio controls, and an 8 way manually adjustable driver's seat. If you'd rather have the car shift gears for you, you'll pay $22,690 before destination. The automatic transmission is also bundled with alloy wheels and rear center armrest. Upgrading to the SE model with a 6 speed manual transmission will cost you $23,725 before destination. That nets you leatherette seating, heated seats, touchscreen stereo, and some fancy aluminum trim.

If neither of these engines are worth your hard earned money, and you secretly lust after Volkswagen's staggered cylinder engines, you'll want to know that the VR6 equipped Passat SE starts at $28,995 before destination. It's prepackaged with a slew of upgraded features including a sunroof, DSG 6 speed automatic transmission, 18 inch alloy wheels, leatherette seating, heated sport seats, touchscreen stereo, Fender audio, aluminum trim, dual exhaust and a set of fog lights. A Passat SEL Premium VR6 with all the available options will cost $32,950 before destination.
