Sun Spots!

The sun's gettin' high in the sky, time to break out all the summer toys. Post your interesting vehicle spots here, between sips from your umbrella drink of course.

Saw the '66 Buick Wildcat sedan again today and realized it's a '65. D'oh..

Silver Lotus Elise

Black '63-'64 Studebaker sedan in great shape. "Frosted Glass" (I think that's the colour) '12 Focus hatch.

Saw a very clean '66 Plymouth VIP 4dr ht yesterday....a dark gold w/ black top.

Cruze LTZ after Cruze LTZ...in 5 different colors today on the same street. The Ice Blue stood out the most, in a good way.

My first Camaro convertible. Inferno Orange Metallic SS, black stripes, black top.

A disturbingly well preserved Dodge Rampage Turbo puttering around near my house. The old coot driving it probably soaks his dentures in carb cleaner.

Camino, I can make inquiries to getting you into his will if you're interested.

On the morning drive to work I saw a clean '67 Corvette big block convertible in white w/ a red stripe w/ the sidepipes and stinger hood. Nice to see one of these in traffic instead of their usual location (high $$$ auctions).

Camino, shield your eyes! A late model, silver and gray El Camino in beautiful condition... except the entire front end was destroyed in what appeared to be a recent head-on collision. In a local tow yard. :(

Followed a rumbly, beautifully preserved '77 Electra coupe, silver/silver landau/red velour and Buick Road Wheels into the Lowe's parking lot today. Talked to the guy as he got out. He seemed amazed I knew what it was, said he loves the way it rides, that his daily driver is a VW Golf and he's getting "too old for small cars". Dude was like 32 and cute.

Also... the "black" Studebaker sedan I posted about up above is actually dark green... sawr it again today in the same spot in the sunshine (its driveway).

Seeing the usual parade of Cruzes out here... it sure beats the refreshed Corolla, that's for sure.

Also, an '11 Charger... patrol car. I didn't know they were out yet.

There's a house I pass on the way to one long-term job, last summer he had a 1st gen Camaro in the drive... I disremember which year exactly, but I think it's a '68. IIRC (only seen it sleeping under a cover recently), it's a big-tired car with a brawny hood. The twist? He lives at #396, and has Camaro 396 badges for his mailbox numbers. :D

A 1975ish Dodge Dart that looked like it he just rolled off the showroom floor. Didn't have a driver, just a little white tuft of hair sticking up and a pair of hands.

Accord Crosstours all over, in every color, with new temp tags or well into life loaded with accessories, wheels, etc. These have to be one of the best selling Hondas around Philly.

Sweet. I wish I lived at 455 or at least 428 or 400.

Being a map fiend, I noticed that one of the broken streets in the area was renamed Pontiac Ave (or Rd or St) during the time in which 911 was installed in the mod '90s. Knowing that the people living on such a street have the say in the renaming, and that some people's addresses are weighed more than others, I had to drive by... and sure enough, there is a big garage and a few '60s Ponchos at the only residence on the street.

That's cool....for a while when I lived in Ann Arbor, Mi I lived on a street between Pontiac Trail and Plymouth Road, but I drove Fords then...

I originally saw this truck in January and never posted it here:

...but this past Saturday while out and about, I passed by it with a for-sale sign in the window.

Saturday night went to the movies and this was parked in the parking lot:

Not just patina, but check the plates! Those appear to be ABC-123 NJ issue... so those are from roughly late 1970. Its possible the owner of the car has as much patina as the car.

Also, if I'm reading the plate number correctly, this was from a run of experimental reflectorized plates. My father had a commerical plate from this run on his IH boom truck. NJ wouldn't make another reflectorized plate until 1993.

Another one of the million new Focus' I see daily, this time in a cool traffic setting I thought was good to snap a shot of.

Copper 73 'Stang with tan vinyl top at a Speedway so clean had the obligatory aluminum slots & looked to be biased ply tires funny no Historical plates

I need to carry that camera XD

Black convertible Aston Martin last night.

Cruising south from Philly to DE last night, a blue 2009 Z06.

Knew the 2009 part because of the PA license plate "2009 Z06" :AH-HA:

Was in Denver for the weekend, went to the annual Concours de Elegance car show...the biggest I've seen it (been going off and on since 1998). Beyond the usual assortment of Porsches, Mercedes, Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, Jaguars, there were Shelbys (an unrestored '65 racing Cobra and a GT350 R were amongst the 20 or so there),2 Bitter SCs--the '80s German coupe based on Opel mechanicals, never seen one in person, let along 2, and a late model CTS that was full UK spec--right hand drive, clear taillights, GB number plates.

Yesterday, parked next to a bright red Bonneville GXP. Clean and flawless. Almost made me ashamed of my own car for a second.:P

Light blue '67-'68 (?) Buick Electra convertible

I saw something like this yesterday morning...a '68 Electra convertible bombing along, top down...faded silver blue paint w/ some surface rust, but straight and solid looking, California black/yellow plate..

'70 (Cutlass/Impala?) sedan, metallic green, black vinyl roof with a large /26"/ embossed on the c-pillar, probably referring to the size of its wheels.

Seconds later: an early '80s Eighty-Eight sedan, bright yellow, with Juicy Fruit graphics on the side. I'm not sure what to make of this new trend. It's like the automotive equivalent of retro logo t-shirts.

Later down the road was an olive green/black vinyl '67-8 Coupe de Ville that had mercifully not been donked.

Blue circa '67 Dart 2-door with gold wrap-around tail stripe in sweet shape, sounded like a slant 6, two guys looking for a parking space for the Lancaster Pride Festival yesterday.

Stopped at the Chevy & Ford dealers in Jenkintown, a nice change from Philly's gated & locked lots.

Ford...Focus aplenty, every combo. Interesting little car. More so, Ford's new "Lime Squeeze" electric crazy lime green metallic shade on a new 2011 Escape...whoa.

Over at Chevy, a ton of new Camaro 'verts, all alongside (weird) 3 used '09-11 Challengers...almost looked like a Chevy/Dodge lot for a second, until you realized the Challengers were used. Over hidden in a corner too was a White Diamond/Tan Volt...love these things. Want one.

Saw a very clean brown w/ brown top '81-85 Caprice 4dr in traffic this morning.

I was overtaken by a black Audi Q3 (German plates) last night on the Spanish A66 as I was travelling to Sevilla. Looks like Audi is running its pre-production units in these roads on final validation tests. And Audi seems to like Andalucía a lot: July of last year I saw a camoed A7 that was most likely undergoing some hot weather testing. :)

New black Jaguar XJ on a random side street in Philly. Looks great when dark/black, to hide the otherwise odd black c-pillar panel.

Saw a black Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk out for cruise 2 days ago. It was an early one too, before they squared-off the roof.

Dark tonight, saw an LED lined tail lamp ahead. Almost thought it was a new Charger for a second, but different light line shape. Pulled alongside, and was the first new 2011 Saab 9-5 I've seen in person. Stunning shape. Just a wow car & stature, and cool lighting at night.

White 1st gen Corvair convertible

New Camaro with billet grille 9.9

First new Civic sedan. Subtle, but better proportioned than the older one. No it doesn't ride a foot off the ground.

^ GT Hawk debuted for '62 with the squared-off roof; no "GT" '61 and earlier. Love those.

Saw 2 '63 T-birds today, 1 white & 1 black, both very nice, plus a '56 Chevy sedan delivery, quite rough.

Thought that myself, but there it was sans square roof, Gran Turismo script on the door.

Interesting...maybe it was an earlier Hawk someone had put GT doors on for some reason or another..I like the very clean '53-55 pre-Hawk coupes and the GT more than the finny ones from '56-61.

I have a bit of a thing for all of them - they stood out from the crowd in the 50s.

Lower, longer, wider happened at Studebaker first.

Well, they were low....
