April 9, 200619 yr IL Exclusive: OnStar To Help Customers Find Ethanol Date posted: 04-08-2006 DETROIT — OnStar President Chet Huber said his company will unveil a new service in June to let customers know if their vehicle is E85 compatible and help them find ethanol filling stations. Customers will receive an e-mail telling them where ethanol filling stations are in their area — or they can press the OnStar button in their vehicle and get help from a representative. Huber said OnStar is also working on another new service that would alert customers when their tires are underinflated. "Even minor underinflation has an impact on fuel economy," Huber said. He would not say when that service would start, only that it will make its debut in the "short term." OnStar is also teaming with the Mayo Clinic and the University of Michigan to develop more sophisticated ways of alerting emergency personnel at places like level-one trauma centers and air ambulances when severe car crashes occur. Such a setup could conceivably send such information as how severe the impact was, whether multiple impacts occurred, and whether the vehicle rolled over. This would speed the response of emergency personnel, he said. What this means to you: OnStar, which started out as simple roadside assistance, has pretty sophisticated ambitions. April 9, 200619 yr There's a new producer building a plant in CA at the moment - Pacific Ethanol I think. Marketing arm imports fuel from Colorado and the Midwest: Kinergy Marketing 5711 North West Avenue, Fresno, CA 93711 (559) 435-6161 Edited April 9, 200619 yr by thegriffon
April 9, 200619 yr Flexible-fuel vehicles will be used by the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) at various operations in Northern California and the state's Central Valley. Chevron Technology Ventures will work with CalTrans to provide E85 fuel and install the necessary refueling pumps in these locations. Pacific Ethanol, a California-based ethanol production and marketing company, will provide the ethanol to Chevron Technology Ventures for the project.
April 9, 200619 yr I really hope you guys start getting E85 soon....its now at a station about every 15-20 miles in ND, and a new ethanol plant just broke ground up here so it is going to get even better. I have started using it in the new (to me) suburban. When I filled up the first time, I filled with half regular unleaded and half E85, because I heard you don't lose much mileage that way. I've been getting about 15 on the highway and 12 in town by what the computer is telling me (which would be great....can't do the actual math until next time I fill up. If this half and half thing works out the way I think it is going to and I'm actually not losing much mileage, then this summer I'm going to get another fuel tank out at the farm and fill it half full of gas and get some ethanol from the plant like 20 miles from here and fill up. I would be getting gas for more along the lines of about 2.00 a gallon or a little less but I have to do the math.
