June 23, 201114 yr ...in the barn. Those old, thick, stone walls are weeping moisture, the concrete floor is weeping moisture, and water is condensing on everthing I own! ARGH! I need a solution.
June 23, 201114 yr That happens in my Mom's barn in Ohio...parking cars on the bottom floor on sheets of material (fiberboard or plywood) instead of directly on the concrete helps, IIRC.
June 23, 201114 yr Author Or a dozen dehumidifiers. Spent the whole day moving stuff "up" for whatever that's worth. All of my good stuff is in there - some damage done. Not happy.
June 23, 201114 yr DryLoc the interior walls. Yep- there goes the cozy stone look... but it'll stay dry. There's no gutters on the barn, are there. That's a lot of roof footage dumping right down next to the walls... wet outside will seep inside. After/instead of that: you need ventilation.
June 24, 201114 yr Author I think ventillation is the key. Drylok would probably run away screaming from those old walls with the crumbling mortar. Probabaly take 20 gallons or more to tame it slightly. But yeah, it has gutters (copper), they are even oversize. I'm guessing that they need to be cleaned - but that's higher than any ladder I have (and higher than I want to climb to be honest). I'm going to have to think this one through...
June 24, 201114 yr No doubt it's a big job- chip out the really loose mortar, etch it all, then 2 coats of DryLoc. Last I checked it was $97 / 5 gals. You'd likely only have to paint the mortar as opposed to the rocks, but that would look pretty bad. You know how to tell if the gutters need cleaning... But yea- ventilation would be a great plus.

I sweep up about 50lbs. of the mortar several times each year - yeah, it's that bad. It is constantly leaving a mini-beach all around the perimeter. The contractor that rebuilt the barn after the fire didn't even re-point the stone. The only new mortar was where he had to patch a section of wall. If it were mine...
