June 24, 201114 yr My brother hauled off his Nissan and Alero last weekend for $696. Now it's my turn...
June 25, 201114 yr What was wrong with the Golf? I can't remember. I know you socked some dough and time into that one.
June 25, 201114 yr Author What was wrong with the Golf? I can't remember. I know you socked some dough and time into that one. In the end it wasn't worth any additional investment that it needed to remain roadworthy. Fuel pump was on its way out, power steering pump had already seized, rear struts were shot, needed a wheel bearing, needed rear brakes, and it needed tires. Pair that with a bent frame that I couldn't easily fix and it's rather luckluster fuel economy due to also needing a tune up (averaged 25-27 mpg) and I really had no other way to go. Parting it out would have taken too long (just look at how long I've had the Jetta) and no one would really pay more for it than what I can get at scrap value. Thus, I was led to this. My Jetta was reliable, but this one lived up to VW's reputation, partly due its past abuse and high mileage (was around 216k). It was an easy choice to stick with the CRX, despite it needing a head gasket (blew on me last week).
June 25, 201114 yr Author ehhh- you'll be dragging the CRX to the scrap yard before you know it. Nah, it's value even as an engine-less rusty shell is still higher than its scrap value. It's too light and too many wannabe ricers love them.
June 25, 201114 yr Glad to see your life getting more simple....hope the subie keeps doing well for you, vipes...
June 25, 201114 yr It's too light and too many wannabe ricers love them. Wannabe ricer, interesting term... *pictures in head* "Dang, I so wanna get this sticker set, stick-on fender vents, and chrome edging for every edge of my car, but I can't afford it."
June 25, 201114 yr Cars are $220 a ton over here, what's the price in PA? In NJ, I've been told its closer to $250-300 a ton, IF you skip the middleman. In general, nobody will sell you a car/truck for less than $600, as that is the "scrap value", and they sit firm there. Its debatable to me if these people would actually get those prices. Its hard to believe that I've bought many a running car off eBay for $200~$300 as recently as 5-6 years ago.
