Holy Grail GMC

Featured Replies

Yes quite rare and desirable I'd have it if the damned economy & job issues were better just needs a 700r4 added to the mix :smilewide:

That is sad. I sold mine in 1983 for that same price. It was a Rust Free Nashville SP.

Mine was the 402 but it had all the other goods like the cowl hood and stirrup shifter. I think they made 500-600 of mine or there abouts. I knew they were rare as I only ever saw one other like mine in this area.

I wish I had it today. Last I saw in was in NC.

A fine example of the breed.

$500

$650 if the tires are good.

Fair enough.

In all seriousness, it looks neat, but it's also in pretty poor shape. I'd say $1,500 at the very most, especially for no powertrain and all that rust.

Umm, no.

Hyper-rarity trumps condition.

And, it comes with the original engine as well as a good rear clip - the price is right on.

I don't know if I'd call that rear clip "perfect" - there does look to be some metal cancer around the wheel opening. Still, if the guy buying it is skilled enough to splice together two GMC Sprints, he's good enough to put in a patch panel or two.

A period-correct transmission should be a relatively easy find. I'd say it's fairly spot on, though I'd do what I could to shave 500-1000 off the price during negotiations. You can't get anything from the late 60s/early 70s for that price, regardless of condition.

Probably a stupid question but are these much rarer than their El Camino SS 454 counterparts?

Much more rare.

Real EC SS454 cars are quite rare, but a Sprint 454SP is an order of magnitude moreso. According to the ad, there were only 35 built for '72. I can't vouch for that number, but I do know that in '71 only 25 cars were built.
