Post what your own personal automotive Holy Grail is here; include pictures and a background story if you'd like :smilewide:

I would recommend that you post no more than one vehicle per catergory... so that would mean one holy grail car/CUV/Minivan, one holy grail truck/SUV, one holy grail motorcycle, one holy grail airplane, etc. (you get the point ;) )

My holy grail does not lie within a single vehicle, but rather a collection of vehicles amounting to roughly 1000 or so. One day... one day...

overall:

(You can imagine I have a nerdgasm every time Ferris Bueller's Day Off comes on.)

but do airplanes really fall under "automotive"?

Honorable mention to the Bugatti Royale and Jaguar E-type, but this is it. To think they had a 320 hp, DOHC straight 8, 75 years ago (and up to 400 hp on some models) is just staggering.

@Turbojett... hell, if one was really into trains I'd say post it here

I guess to be fair though the title of this thread should be changed to TRANSPORTATION Holy Grail in that case...

I posted two vehicles that I would absolutely be thrilled to own as my holy grails (I mean, those two vehicles get my blood flowin' when I see them at car shows). However, my ultimate "holy grail", if money were plentiful enough that not only could I purchase one, but be able to maintain it throughout my ownership, it would be this:

Tucker Torpedo would make a pretty good choice as a single holy grail...

I snapped these at a car show earlier this year... Absolutely GORGEOUS car!

My holy grails.... Hmm, that's a hard one.... Just off the top of my head:

For Oldsmobile:

1) The above pictured car

2) The '48 Olds

3) Both of the Auroras

4) Or this car: http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/inventory/132497?type=active (1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30)

For Buick:

1) A '54 or a '57

2) Definitely; hands down this 1960 model:

For Cadillac:

1) A new CTS-V coupe or sedan

2) Naturally a '59

3) A '63 or '62 like this:

For GMC probably this '55:

For Pontiac:

1) A '55 or '56 Silver Streak

2) A '65 Grand Prix or Bonneville

3) Then there's the '65 or '66 Catalina

4) The '66 and'67 GTO and '69 or '70 GTO.

5) The '71-'73 Firebird

6) The '98-'02 Trans Am

7) The Solstice coupe.

8) Oh and naturally this: (which was sitting next to the Ninety Eight pictured -- I was in heaven!)

With Chevrolet, it becomes even harder...

1) The '51

2) The '55-'57 shoe boxes.

3) The early years of the Advance Design trucks, including the Surburban.

4) The '59 and '62 Impala and '59 El Camino

5) The '66, '67 and '70 Chevelles

6) The '66 and '67 Nova.

7) The '67-'73 Camaros obviously since I own one of each generation (and maybe the ZL1; haven't seen it yet)

8] The Apache

9) The '69 era Chevy trucks.

10) The '58-'62 C1 Corvettes,'63 C2 Sting Ray, '70-'72 and'80-'82 C3 Corvettes, the current Z06 and ZR1

As for Ford and Dodge and the smaller makes.... Off the top of my head and very basic and quickly:

1969%20general%20lee%20forsale%20www.truemusclecars.com%20%281%29.jpg

The original SRT-8 Charger and the new Charger... The last generation SRT-8 Grand Cherokee

1999d1216935710-545-cid-1969-mustang-mustang-8-.jpg

The early '60's Continental

The Tucker.... And I can't think of anymore right now.

I think a good thread would be the anti holy grail of cars, not counting the Cadillac Cimarron and Pontiac Aztek, because those are just too easy.

No one mentioned the Aston Martin DB5 yet, that is a pretty legendary car.

Old School meets High Tech. Fast, efficient and purely meant to be driven as hard as possible.
